R.I.P. Clarence Burke, Jr. of The Five Stairsteps

Clarence Burke Jr. lead singer of the family group The Five Stairsteps, passed away sometime earlier today.

After the disbandment of the Five Stairsteps, Clarence then went on to form the Invisible Man's Band best known for the song "All Night Thing" with former Stairsteps and brothers, Kenny, Dennis, James and Dan Gant.

In most reent years, he returned to performing and was working on new projects.

2010 at the Sugar Bar in NYC.

Sad to hear this. Ironically I knew about him as a member of the Invisible Man's Band before I learned of him as a member of The Five Stairsteps. RIP

BlogRadio with Clarence Burke Jr.

This interview was done I think 3 or 4 years ago. For better or worse the Burke's were a (Chicago Metro) regional group that did "good". RIP, Clarence. dove

Yes Clarence sang lead on, "All Night Thing."

I just pulled their music up: The Five Stairsteps, Invisible Man's Band, and Keni's solo career. These guys had talent oozing out of them... had an original sound and style. Why they didn't have a long music career for the asking is a mystery to me... with the except of Keni. If Clarence passed away on the 26 of May, he died a day after his birthday (the 25 of May) , he was 62. sad

That makes me even sadder. It seems like in one year the lead singers on 3 of my favorite songs: Inside Out, Lovin Is Really My Game and All Night Thing have passed away. All too soon. sigh

The New York Times

The Los Angles Times

The Chicago Tribune

Took a minute for the press to catch up to Clarence's passing but here are the Obit's. I know for a few years the Burke siblings had been talking about getting together and performing. You never know what's all involved but sometimes we make an error in judgment that tomorrow is promised... it isn't.
