How long did Lisa Fischer sing for Luther?

And also, who has she sung back up for other than the Rolling Stones?

She started out as a background singer for Chaka from 1984 thru 1985. She was on the entire "I Feel For You" tour. Chaka was plagued with vocal problems during most of the tour and Lisa really stepped up to hit those notes Chaka would normally hit. She then started singing for Luther after the Chaka tour and, if I'm not mistaken, I believe she toured with him right up to the very end. She also toured with Tina as a background vocalist. That chick is BAD!!!biggrin

Kit, from what I've been reading, Lisa started before 84 singing backgrounds.

She had a freestyle song that was an underground hit. It was under the name Xena.

She started recording with Luther during his "The Night I Fell In Love" project.

She is featured in a documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom, that's opening in theaters around the country soon.

Oh yeah. I knew about the Xena song "The Upside". I used to hear it on the radio when it was out. I really dug that song but never knew who it was. I took me YEARS to get a hold of it and I was surprised to find out it was Lisa.

But, as far as touring as a background vocalist with a major act, she did state in an interview a while ago Chaka was her first major gig. Then, she started working for Luther. I don't know the reason why she left Chaka after just one tour. Maybe Luther offerred her more money but I know Chaka was pretty wild back then because I heard some stories about what was going on behind stage on many of her tours. biggrin Vesta and Meli'sa Morgan both toured with her as background vocalists before Lisa but not for very long. I believe Lisa was performing with Chaka off and on after 1985 because when Chaka performed "Tight Fit" on The Joan Rivers Show in 1986, Lisa was one of the background vocalist.
