My favourite rap act was OutKast, but no matter what I think about Kanye West as a person, I don't really think any rapper changed urban music as much as he did from when he started getting famous until now, and probably quite some years from now also.

The College Dropout , Late Registration and Graduation: Kanye opens his career with a monstreus debut really kicking some heavy ass towards the "gansters" in rap music such as 50 Cent and the etc, kicking them out of the throne of most popular artists. Makes it cool to put some effort into socially concious lyrics as well as good feel and thought provoking lyrics in pop songs. Common and many similar acts did well around this period. Not saying Kanye was or is a super talented writer, but he does seem to care a whole lot, and he does have alot on his heart. This matters! The last album in the trilogy is a bit more comercial and poppy. He teased us with both some of the darker stuff, as well as use of autotune and emotional stuff on these albums. It was now cool to listen to Kanye, Lil Wayne and T-Pain.

808s and Heartbreaks:You can blame "lazy asses" like Kanye and T-Pain for the crappy radio singles that included alot of bad autotuning. But you can also guess how Drake, James Blake, The Weeknd and Frank Ocean would sound if it wasnt for this incredible album. If it was sung by a great singer, most people would think it was a good album. Kanye has great musical vision and is more ambitious and creative than he is technically capable of making everything sound good. But he is a leading man. Also ofwgkta was heavily influenced by his darker stuff and style of rapping.

Some of the darker moments of 808s and heartbreaks, as well as beautiful dark twisted fantasy forced all the darkness on the pop culture. THe all wear black fashion, the burning of cars in the streets, the illuminati signs... hey even Prince is riding this shit right now it seems. Kanye didn't invent this shit. But he pioneered it. Even Jay-Z was riding his dick, and still does even though Jay-Z has always been ranked way higher through the times.

Kanye is THE SHIT. He is so ahead, even the greater names are following him. I don't like how Kanye acts, I don't even love all his shit. But he is a game changer. FACT! This new ERA is just a piece of his puzzle. And I love watching!

Art? I don't think so.

Cry for attention? Indeed.

Well then, who has to do it in order for it to be considered art by you?

EVERY MUSICAL ARTIST IN POP MUSIC WANTS ATTENTION. Hell, every musical artist I know wants it. How is this song different?

Lol I'm not looking for anyone to do anything I would "consider" art, either it is, or it isn't. I don't doubt any of Kanye's talent, but to me, when someone who is talented relies or seems to rely on tricks, gimmicks, and controversy to attract people, rather than what they can create or are creating, it just seems like "HEY! LOOK AT WHAT I'M DOING NOW!!! LOOK HOW EDGY I CAN BE!" That is such a turn off. And plus, I'm not giving anything called "BLACK SKINHEAD" the time of day. Just because someone is doing what others aren't doesn't make someone a "genius".

The way words get thrown around in here boy lol...

While I disagree with the song comment i highly agree with the genius thing. I'm a big a fan of Kanye as can be but I don't think he's genius lol some people think because someone is doing something different then it's genius and a new step. I mean I have heard Janet Jackson and Madonna called geniuses on this forum lol
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

You are describing Prince in the 80s when people said he was a genious. He was a genious both with music, and the way he exaggerated his persona in a theatrical way to get the attention he wanted. He was real, but also used gimmicks. Kanye is very much himself, but also uses some techniques to attract more listeneres. Personally i lover what he is doing. And believe it or not, but this new direction he is taking us, he is really taking us. Just take a look at the rest of the urban popstars in a few months, maybe years. They will adapt, and they always did.
