This isn't autotuned wtf are you talking about? lol

Kanye hasn't been autotuned since 2008. I'm going to take a guess and say you didn't even listen to the song before commenting.

There is some sort of vocal distortion -autotuned or not.

In the back up vocals and it's something industrial metal does a lot which is what he is trying to go for.

And industrial metal were not using auto tune back in the 80's and 90's lol

Stymie

Someone said in the other thread that he came off as angry. He strikes me as completely batshit crazy.

This song does nothing for me. However, there is importance to what he is saying and I hope people can look past his shenanigans and listen to what he has to say.

Kanye is nuts. That said, he is one of few mainstream artists who constantly push the envelope of their ascribed genre, of its associated aesthetic, of their own craft, of their substantive worldview/social commentary. And I ultimately respect him for it.

I agree with both of you Lammastide & Stymie smile

I respect that people have their own opinions on certain artists...

But some people on the org are quick to dismiss Kanye without even listening to a song or album! the fact that he has just done an industrial type song is big cause for those people that are strict hip-hop heads they are gonna be shocked.

Some will love it or hate it but it could give them a new appreciation for a different type of music cool

He's so annoying, and so full of shit.

But this song is prophetic and amazing. He's reached a new level.

I have to admire his creativity.

There have been several artist that have tried to "industrial hiphop" in the past (Dälek, for example). So he's not the coming up with something that has been entirely unheard before, but there's a lot to explore still with this approach.

This is precisely what I love about him. He'snot a fraid to take chances. Just look at his growth from his first album to what he's doing now. From All falls down to Black skinhead, wow! You gotta hand it to him. This is very uncommon, esepcially in Hip Hop. To me he's more than a Hip Hop artist.

There IS a chance he could innovate. hmmm I appreciate his versatility in style, even if it isn't brand new.

When I first heard this (and the other track) on SNL, my initial thought was "why the hell is he so goddamn angry all the time?"...but then it changed to "gotta give props to him for at least trying to reinvent himself". You have to admit, it's a ballsy move to go into a completely different direction such as this.

It's almost "artsy".

Although you never know how much these big name artists are actually involved with the actual creation process...meaning, this "new sound" is probably the work of more than a few creative minds.

I would say it's definitely artsy. Even his approach to premiering his video for New Slaves, is like an art installation, having it up on the sides of buildings....

I think his new direction is genuine. He doesn't strike me at all as a puppet. If this were Justin Beiber I might think differently lol but not coming from Mr. West. Even if a couple people were behind this, I'd still say it was a clever and ballsy move. Hip Hop has been on a creative decline for a long time, so I really appreciate this.

Notice no one else is debuting their videos on the sides of buildings like an art installation. Fake artists tend to have the same type of marketing gimmicks.

I don't like it but man, I got new respect for Kanye as an creative artist! He is not cut from

the same cloth of your typical rap artist - I gotta give him props for playing "out."

That's what I'm saying. Those manufactured puppets could never think of something like that as a part of their marketing plans. I wonder if there will be future copycats.....

If you read the liner notes of Kanye's albums though, there are more writers credited than just the sample songwriters, and often other people producing as well. His music is truly a collaboration, and I don't think that takes away from his output. Some of Prince's best music had contributions from other band members.

I don't care what anybody says, the death of his mother effected his deeply. He has not time to grieve in a "normal" way, and it has been coming out in his antics and his music. As for the song, it's different. I like the other song, he did that night.

I agree... even though Kanye can be an utter dick sometimes i do feel for what he went through.

He acts like a spoiled brat at times but i know he talked deeply how much his mom affected him and how close they were.

His mom passed away and not too long after that him and Alexis broke up... which then came 808's & heartbreaks. Then it was Amber Rose and her ratchet ass lol then she broke it with him and that fucked with him as well.

I don't think he has quite gout off everything and despite keeping his mouth shut now he is dating an attention whore so he is always in the media no matter what.

Its easy to get off point and miss the message while talking about the messenger.

Whatever he has gone through in his life does not detract from what he is talking about.

All of this name calling and yet nobody else at his level is saying what he is saying. Pop rappers sell products. As long as they are doing that, they are okay. The minute they step out of that zone, the media gets ordered to deconstruct them. One of the most dismissive terms is to call someone "crazy"; and whether that be the case or not, the message is still solid and if you miss the song while being so preoccupied with who sang it, then YOU are the flawed ones.

Well then, who has to do it in order for it to be considered art by you?

EVERY MUSICAL ARTIST IN POP MUSIC WANTS ATTENTION. Hell, every musical artist I know wants it. How is this song different?
