I thought it was so weird for Columbia to follow-up with this album, which they did zero promotion for, right after 1983's "Visions", the group's first Gold album since the early 70's. AVAILABLE: July 23, 2013 . Lee Hazlewood’s LHI label only put out interesting albums. Yet despite the psychedelic cowboy’s success with Nancy Sinatra and more, being on Lee Hazlewood Industries was no fast-track to success. Gorgeous and talented Detroit, Michigan girl group Honey Ltd had all the makings of a hit band, yet they disappeared after releasing just one album in 1968, a vinyl rarity that now regularly fetches upwards of $2,000. . Light In The Attic Records is now looking to set the record straight. Having previously explored both the back catalog of Lee Hazlewood and his LHI label via the You Turned My Head Around 45s Box Set, Honey Ltd’s The Complete LHI Recordings presents everything the group ever recorded. Fans of The Ronettes, The Shangri-Las and Pentangle are in for a treat – Honey Ltd’s music blended social commentary with harmony-drenched, psych-soul pop. Even opening track, ‘Warrior’, describes the mood of the times, as America sunk into the Vietnam war: “We must kill more people; strong men are what we need!" . Laura Polkinghome, Marsha Jo Temmer and sisters Joan and Alexandra Sliwin are the girls with the angelic voices. Hailing from Detroit, the four members of Honey Ltd grew up in a culture of soul music and dance shows, yet forming a band was never part of the plan. It simply happened after they sung together in a Wayne State University cafeteria and found they’d silenced the room. By 1967 they had formed a group known as the Mama Cats and were playing shows with local singer Bob Seger. By 1968, against a backdrop of rioting in Detroit, they’d hauled over to Los Angeles to give music a go, and it’s there that they hitch-hiked to an audition with Lee Hazlewood on Sunset Boulevard. At the time, Lee Hazlewood Industries was in its prime: the money flowed and the roster swelled. “I think Lee just sat there for a while and listened, looking at us,” Temmer recalls. “He said, ‘Yeah, I think we can do something.’ You know – immediately!” Before long, LHI had the band in the studio with crack session music unit The Wrecking Crew. . These were not enlightened times for girl groups. The group were re-named Honey Ltd by Hazlewood, and were put to work on an album without even realizing it. The band were under the impression they were simply recording singles. As a result, the band were unphased by Honey Ltd’s commercial failure. . The parent label, however, did notice the album’s failure but the girls continued on. By the end of 1968, the band joined Bob Hope on the USO tour and headed to Thailand to perform for soldiers. In 1969, Alex married and quit the band, their tenure on LHI was effectively terminated and the remaining members regrouped as country-rock group Eve. But like their music, the girls’ outlook remained resolutely sunny. . “Its all a karmic equation, isn’t it?" Temmer recalled. “So many things to experience and learn and humbly let go of in this journey. Our friendship is based on love – we love each other… always have… always will.”

Hall & Oates 1977 comp "No Goodbyes" that Atlantic released is finally making its cd debut in the U.S. Originally issued on Atlantic Records in 1977, it features the hit "She's Gone". The album reached # 92 on the Billboard charts. Hall & Oates fanatics can now have this album on compact disc.

On September 2, Universal will release an expanded double CD of Kim Wilde's sixth album 'Close' from 1988. The CD will feature two previously unreleased tracks and eight tracks that were never released on CD in the UK. How did I miss this?! Sorry, kit! Yes! After the Gold "Visions," one would have THOUGHT that CBS would have promoted it! I mean, the possibilities for marketing a title like this were certainly there like, "Put some LIFE in your record collection!" or "Get a LIFE!" or ANYTHING close 2 that, but NOOOOO!!!! Ridiculous! Be that as it may, the album unnecessarily flopped, but did have a couple of beautiful ballads (which I THINK did well.) Can't remember. I'm gettin' OLD(er!) Hungry? If You Could Read My Mind - Viola Wills
Viola Wills was originally a session vocalist on sides that Barry White produced for Bob Keane's Bronco/Mustang labels. In 1965, White signed Wills to Bronco as a solo artist. She recorded several sides for the label; all failed to chart. It would take another decade before Viola would chart a hit.
In 1979, while signed to the Ariola/Hansa label, Wills enjoyed her biggest hit with a disco version of Patience and Prudence's 1957 hit ‘GONNA GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU NOW.’ Recording in an up-tempo Disco/Hi-NRG style, Wills scored dancefloor hits with Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND’ and Carole King & Gerry Goffin’s ‘UP ON THE ROOF.’ IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND became her first Ariola album release in 1980.
Cherry Pop is proud to release the first ever CD version of Viola’s album IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND expertly remastered and complete with liner notes and bonus tracks. It is essential listening for all Hi-NRG, Disco and ‘80s Pop fans out there!

The Buddah Years - Phyllis Hyman
Eighteen years after her passing in 1995, soulful songstress Phyllis Hyman remains one of most appreciated and loved singers of her time. SoulMusic Records pays tribute to the distinctive vocalist with a third release following the 2013 reissues of two of her Arista albums, 1979’s SOMEWHERE IN MY LIFETIME (SMCR-5092) and 1983’s GODDESS OF LOVE (SMCR-5095) with a collection that focuses on her recordings for Buddah Records (1977-1978).
Incorporating her self-titled 1977 LP debut (available on CD for the first time in its entirety in many years), THE BUDDAH YEARS also includes the dance-flavoured "You’re The One,” a track left off the original album, and three songs – ‘Soon Come Again,’ ‘Be Careful (How You Treat My Love)’ and ‘The Answer Is You’ - recorded for Buddah, originally released on the 1978 non-US LP, ‘Sing A Song’ and then included on her 1979 US Arista debut.
With production by Jerry Peters, John Davis and the team of Larry Alexander (her then-husband) and Sandy Torano, the "Phyllis Hyman album” showcased the songbird’s ability to fuse pop, soul and jazz. Highlights included a beautiful reinterpretation of "I Don’t Want To Lose You,” (originally recorded by The Spinners), songwriter / producer Thom Bell’s ‘Loving You, Losing You,’ (a Top 40 R&B and dance hit single) and the Hyman fan favourite, ‘The Night Bird Gets The Love.’
Liner notes by renowned U.S. writer Rashod Ollison include quotes from producer John Davis and arranger Onaje Allan Gumbs.

Hold Your Horses - First Choice
FIRST CHOICE, a female vocal trio hailing from Philadelphia, spent much of the 1970s signed to Philly Groove Records under the management of legendary Salsoul guitarist, songwriter and producer, Norman Harris. They released a string of hits throughout the mid to late 70s, the most prominent of which has to be their 1977 hit, Let No Man Put Asunder from the album Delusions which has almost 50 samples to its name, not including the countless samples of the 1983 Frankie Knuckles and Shep Pettibone remixes.
Following the huge success of Delusions, First Choice released their second offering on Gold Mind, Hold Your Horses. While Norman Harris produced and played on the album, the majority of production duties were left in the highly capable hands of Tom Moulton and Thor Baldursson. Musical talent features in the shape Philly Soul and MFSB legend Bobby Eli backed by string arrangement from the world-renowned Don Renaldo and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
Notable singles include the title track which achieved a top 100 US R&B position while rocketing all the way to #5 on the US Dance chart as did the following single, Double Cross with both becoming hugely popular on dance floors around the globe, the latter also successfully gained a #60 spot on the US R&B charts during a highly competitive period of music. Other notable tracks include third single Love Thang also proving to be a popular dance floor jam.

Inner Life - Inner Life
Inner Life was an American studio project group led by Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael. After crossing paths in their working circles, Greg Carmichael enlisted the vocal prowess of an established backing singer by the name of Jocelyn Brown and asked her to sing co-lead on a song that would feature the amazing talent of the New York philharmonic orchestra and set dancefloors alight with the Chic-influenced disco romp, 'Keep On Jumping' which sat itself comfortably atop the Billboard Disco Chart.
On the back of this success Jocelyn joined forces with Carmichael and Adams along with Leroy Burgess and backed them with the unmistakably fantastic Salsoul Orchestra. The result was 3 albums that have gone on to become disco dance classics. BBR presents to you Inner Life – Inner Life. Inner Life was released in 1981 on the legendary Salsoul Records and featured production mastery by Inner Life’s creators, Greg Carmichael and Patrick Adams.
Recorded at the historic Sigma Sound Studios, Inner Life presented two singles offerings the first of which was a rendition of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s 1967 Motown hit Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and daunting a task as it may have been for Brown, she did the track wonderful justice with her incredibly natural and soulful vocal taking the single all the way to #20 on the US Disco Chart. Other notable tracks include the second single (Knock Out) Let’s Go Another Round and the more laid back groover Make It Last Forever. There are further remixes by the legendary John Morales and Larry Levan.

Loleatta - Loleatta Holloway
Loleatta Holloway was a dance music legend. Her amazing vocal talents gained her the reputation as one of the premier vocalists of soul and dance. Loleatta unfortunately passed away in March 2011. Loleatta started singing with Queen of Gospel, Albertina Walker and the Caravans. She released her first single "Rainbow ‘71” on the fledgling Apache label before moving to Aware to record her first two albums prior to her work with Salsoul.
LOLEATTA was her first album for Gold Mind/Salsoul Records and was released in 1976. WORN OUT BROKEN HEART was released as the album’s first single and made #25 R&B. Its B-Side was DREAMIN’, an underground club hit when initially released. DREAMIN’ later became one of Salsoul’s key tracks and has often been remixed, most notably in 2000 when it topped the Billboard Dance chart. HIT AND RUN was the album’s second single and another Salsoul classic. It was a #11 Disco hit when released.
LOLEATTA also features WE’RE GETTING STRONGER which was sampled by Whitney Houston on her Million Dollar Bill single as well as the Curtis Mayfield penned song WHAT NOW. Loleatta was responsible for providing the vocals for dance classics Love Sensation and Relight My Fire (Dan Hartman) as well as the UK #1 hit by Black Box, Ride On Time.
Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, with bonus tracks LOLEATTA is a must for all Soul and Funk fans out there and a very welcome addition to our collection of Salsoul reissues! Release Date: 05/08/13
