RIP Trevor Bolder: Spiders From Mars bass player

http://www.pastemagazine....at-62.html

"David Bowie bassist Trevor Bolder, who provided the low-end on many early-’70s Bowie albums, died earlier today from cancer, Classic Rock Magazine reported. He was 62 years old.

Bolder was long known as the bassist for Uriah Heep and his time with The Spiders From Mars back in the early 1970s. He got his break playing for Bowie when he replaced Tony Visconiti in 1971.

His work appeared on several of Bowie’s albums including Hunky Dory (1971), The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972),Aladdin Sane (1973) and Pin Ups (1973).

Bolder underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer earlier this year, and had hoped to join Uriah Heep for their performance at Download Festival next month.

The following is a statement from Uriah Heep’s website:

“It is with great sadness that Uriah Heep announce the passing of our friend the amazing Trevor Bolder, who has passed away after his long fight with cancer. Trevor was an all time great, one of the outstanding musicians of his generation, and one of the finest and most influential bass players that Britain ever produced.”"

Sad news, he played a part in some of the very best music made in the early 70's, I'm not familiar with his work with Uriah Heep, but I must have listened to "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars" over one thousand times.

I'm reading Peter Doggett's The Man Who Sold the World: David Bowie and the 70's (a pretty indepth book dealing in some detail with every single song Bowie made during the decade) right now and trying to acquaint myself the music. Just finished the period with the Spiders. Hadn't listened to Ziggy Stardust in years (listened to it a lot back around 1990) until about a month ago, then listened to Aladdin Sane for the first time. Very nice. Hunky Dory and Pin Ups still await.

I don't know any Uriah Heep, but Bolder clearly was there doing his part on some great recordings.
