I thought 99% of contemporary music is made on a laptop??? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Ann Nesby is an incredible singer who has been recording since the 90's. Unfortunately because of her weight and her gigantic, gospel voice, she never really got the respect she deserved, even in R&B circas. Even working with Jam & Lewis got her very little exposure. She's just another one of the many "undiscovered" gems. Here are a couple of my favorite tunes from her as a solo artist:

LOVE Miss Ann! It'd be SO GOOD if she got back with Jam & Lewis again and kicked it like she did on her first solo CD with 'em. Sounds of Blackness never sounded so good when her leonine vocals were put up top with Carrie Harrington's! Sa-LAMMIN'!!! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Y'know, kit: I NEVER understood the whole "weight" thing when u have a kiler voice. It's SOOOO unfair. Look at Jennifer Holliday, Martha Wash, Cheryl Lynn, etc... As I always say, when did people stop "hearing" the music and start "LOOKING" at it? Pisses me OFF!!!! Peace 'n love! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Yep. It's really a shame. It all started in the 80s with music videos and fuller-figured artists being told by their labels that they weren't "video-friendly". And today, it's even worse because a lot of these artists are more associated with being a brand than a traditional singing artist. And, unless it's a rapper, no label is going to brand an overweight artist. It's all about the package, which is a strange criteria for an art form that's supposed to be judged by what you hear rather than what you see. I can only imagine all of the little Aretha's and Luther's running around trying to get signed and these labels won't even give them the time of day. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! How in the World do you NOT know who Ann Nesby is? Everybody remembers Sounds of Blackness and KNOWS she was the lead Sanger. Her Grand-daughter was on Idol and made it through several weeks...

1) I am NOT everybody, I am ME. 2) Sounds of Blackness was a blip on my radar and I never knew the names of the singers. 3) Getxxx, you can stop with your nasty, snarky comments toward me, esp, when I have NEVER done anything to you at all. Your continued rudeness where I am concerned makes no sense. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Chancellor,
I'm willing to bet the majority of people on this board have never heard of Ann Nesby. But EVERYONE knows who Beyonce and Rhianna are. So, don't be hard on people who don't know. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Makes you wonder if all of the legends and icons who started their music careers in the 60's and 70's would be able have a chance in the industry if they were just starting out today? Most of them probably would not. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Cut script a break. Even for people who have heard of Sounds of Blackness, they may not even know the name of the lead singer especially since there was more than one lead singer and damn near 200 people in the group. (sarcasm of course) Also they were radio friendly for only 3 albums. Jamaroqui is bought up here every now and then and i'm not familiar with them as far as the members or their entire catalogue.

ScriptGirl I was just messing with you. Kit you're right cuz years ago Folks on the Chaka board was talking about a Chick that was on the Rise and how she use to sing back-up for Chaka. I never heard of Ledisi and I'm guessing she stopped singing with Chaka before 1999. Her voice is amazing. But back to Ann...I wonder if Prince would have worked with her had she become a bigger Solo star in the 90's? *************************************************************** This board is very diverse & highly opinionated.
