This has come up before and the overwhelming majority always goes with the BJ version. Personally, I like how Quincy Jones reformed it with Brother Ray & Chaka. He could've recycled his original BJ arrangement but saw the opportunity to do something different.

I grew up with the Uncle Ray/Chaka version but I'm going with Brothers Johnson.

The original, but I do like the oh-so-late-'80s reinterpretation.

I never liked it when Quncy remade songs that he produced.I'll never forgive him for what he did to another Brothers Johnson song,"Stomp" (from his 1995 album Q's Jook Joint).....bringing in all those rappers The remake of "I'll Be Good To You" isn't terrible and it does feature two legendary singers, but I think the original is superior.Sometimes, you can't improve on something that's already perfect.

Of course, it's going to be Chaka and Ray for me. I think this "Good For You Soul Remix" was fantastic!

I'm going to go with the cover on this occasion, as I used to love that album when I was younger, and it's two of my favourite singers dueting. Besides, perhaps because I heard the Ray/Chaka version first, the vocals on the original always sound too low to me. The Brothers Johnson gets my vote for sentimental childhood memories. The remake was good but doesn't surpass the original for me. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

The Bubbas Johnson of course but who can't love the Ray Charles & Chaka version especially with Ray in the video kicking his legs up in the air. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

OTOH, there's this...
...so I'd say it can be done.

The original version of "Tomorrow", was an istrumental so, that's not saying much, Alex. You have alott more to work with, with an instrumental. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I was never crazy about how the new jack beats worked with Ray's voice. I appreciate that Quincy was trying something new, but I just don't like it as much as the original, despite having two of the best vocalists on the planet. My Legacy

Yikes, listening again, the music sounds just awful to me. Ray & Chaka sound great, but the backing tracks sound like an old ringtone My Legacy

The Bros! As much as I love Chaka, and Ray Charles, I never warmed up to their version.

I know it's an instrumental. I still say he took a great song, did something different with it, and came up with something even better than before. Much respect to Q. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Naw the Soul to Soul sound just don't do it for me on this remix. I'll stick to their original version. Don't laugh at my funk

Brothers Johnson is more soulful and funky. The remake sounds like straight up pop to me lol.
I like them both. | |
