The Amazing Lena Horne Died at the Age of 92 Three Years Ago this Week

Please note Lena Horne did not die this week. Actually, she died three years ago, and the title mistakenly was meant to celebrate the third year anniversary of Horne’s death. But since we’re talking about the greatness of Lena Horne…..let’s take this opportunity to celebrate her life anyway!

Actress Lena Horne died three years ago this week at the age of 92. The singer died at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, according to hospital spokeswoman Gloria Chin.

Horne was known for her beauty and appealing voice. She broke barriers for women of color that created the platforms that black women are able to use till this day.

“I was unique in that I was a kind of black that white people could accept,” she said. “I was their daydream. I had the worst kind of acceptance because it was never for how great I was or what I contributed. It was because of the way I looked.”

Horne was one of the first singers to perform with a white band in the 1940s. She was also the first to play the Copacabana nightclub. In 1943, she played Selina Rogers in the classic film, “Stormy Weather.” In spite of her achievements, she was still hit by the sting of racism. This frustrated her to no end.

“I was always battling the system to try to get to be with my people. Finally, I wouldn’t work for places that kept us out … it was a d**n fight everywhere I was, every place I worked, in New York, in Hollywood, all over the world,” she said in Brian Lanker’s book “I Dream a World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America.”

She will surely be missed.

We know The Great Lena died 3yrs ago but somebody forgot to tell Linda "Wonder Woman" Carter...I Follow her among Millions of Celebs I like and she Tweeted "Rest in Peace Lena Horne, Great lady"....I was like, what is wrong with Super Woman?

******************************************************************

Notice how Lena said racism was a struggle all over the World. Some people like to think that racism is mainly an American thing and other Countries are more accepting. Racism still exits all over the world.
