Teena Marie Estate joins Schubert Music Publishing for a worldwide Distribution Deal

Schubert Music Publishing Inc. has entered into a worldwide administration agreement with the Teena Marie Estate. At nineteen, Teena was discovered by Rick James and singed to Barry Gordy’s historic Motown label. What followed was a brilliant, three-decade career with “Lady T” releasing 13 studio albums, 7 compilations and over 30 singles-7 of which were top ten hits in the US. Teena’s legacy hybrid of disco, r&b, funk & pop is celebrated for its chordal complexity, melodic hooks and Teena’s soaring vocals.

Catalog highlights:

“I’m a Sucker for Your Love” (duet with Rick James)
“Lovergirl” (80’s pop anthem)
“Oh La La La” (#1 R&B hit, sampled by the Fugees)

This sounds like great news. Teena's music will be getting more exposure worldwide. But why didn't this happen with her mentors muziq Rick James? What happen to his muziq legacy?

Hopefully she has enough unreleased material for another couple of releases! I would still love to hear the remaining tracks from the aborted "Black Rain" album.

I hope this doesn't mean we are going to get another round of reissues.confused I believe all of the Motown vault material has been released. They probably still have some leftovers from her Epic years that need to be released.

Love it! Except for those duets she did with Ronnie McNeir. My favorite is "White Soul".

Yup! "Robbery" has been remastered/reissued a number of times. Most recently by Soulmusic.com.
