In my mind Evelyn King is the first lady of disco dance/ party music. Women like Donna Summers, Grace Jones, Cherrelle, Exposé, Lisa Lisa, Cheryl Lynn, etc, did it up tough as well but Evelyn King, for a good 7, 8 years she had the house party's jumpin.

She was (is) really good. What she & Kashif accomplished in the 80's was seriously fun.

I agree.It's a shame that,after the 1982 Get Loose album (her strongest album,imo),she didn't work with Kashif again.I was slightly disappointed with the 1983 Face To Face album.A few good tracks,but nothing spectacular.

In fact,when you think about it,it was Kashif who re-juvenated her career after a few records that didn't do very well.Her record company didn't know what to do with her after the massive success of "Shame" in the disco era.Here's an example...in 1980,they released her new single called "Sweet Delight",the first single from a planned album of the same name.But then they quickly pulled the single and re-tooled the album (it was later released as Call On Me and didn't contain "Sweet Delight" and a few other tracks from the earlier tracklist).Despite that,the record still bombed.

I agree, Soul. "Face 2 Face" was a hot MESS! I would have loved her to have gotten with Flyte Tyme over Andre Cymone. They would have reeled her in with that gorgous low register of hers and given her a much needed groove lift after "I'm In Love" and "Get Loose." I mean, "Encore" could easily have been HERS! Cheryl Lynn KILLED IT though anyway!

Her Unsung episode was really nice. She still sounded good too.

Yeah,'Face 2 Face' is very disappointing."Action" was a good single,but it's not nearly as good as "Love Come Down","I'm In Love" or "Betcha She Don't Love You"...classic jams all produced by Kashif.Even the Andre Cymone-produced "Teenager" is nothing to write home about.I wish she had done one more album with Kashif,before moving on to different producers.

I thought the best song on "Face To Face" was "Shakedown". I liked "Action", too. But, the rest of the album was too new-wavish for me. I still prefer it over "So Romantic", though. I'm just really anxious to have "A Long Time Coming" properly released on CD. It think it's one of her strongest albums. FTG released it a few years ago when they were doing vinyl rips. It's not a bad rip but I would like an official release.
