Miss Patti's doing a Jazz Album of unheard Fitzgerald & Vaughn standards..

“I am presently in the studio working on a new CD. I’ve chosen songs that belong to the greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn. Some songs people never heard before. I have been working on the CD 6 months now and should be finished by the end of the year,”

said Patti who is delighted to have Xavier Lewis (America's Got Talent winner) open the show for her. “I haven’t met him yet, but I intend to meet him and I know we will have a good time on May 11th. I hope everyone will come out and support me. I am going to do my very best to give my fans a great show.” http://www.eurweb.com/?p=323821

The last time I saw Patti in concert was in 2011 with Kenny G. She did a couple of Jazz numbers and blew the roof off the Place. This project might go places she's not expecting...Very interesting and a long time coming....

If she doesn't over sing them too much, this could be very good.

Personally, I hope she does "over-sing" them. I hope she sings the shit of of them! I'm tired of hearing auto-tuned, computer-enhanced voices. I want to buy an album where somebody is doing some gut-wrenching SANGIN'!!! And if anyone can deliver that, Patti can.biggrin

Patti's not quite that singer to "over sing" that much anymore so I'm sure she'll give some respectful versions. I mean she is almost 70 lol we sometimes forget that. That said, I've heard her do some jazz covers (studio versions) real good so we shall see.

If Ms. Labelle, is singing standards of Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Vaughan how can they've never not have been heard? As far as Labelle "over singing" on TV / and sometimes in concert, yes. On records, no. I really don't think her voice lends itself all that well to the type of material Fitzgerald and Vaughan sang, but we shall see.

I thought when she did a cover of Lady Day back in the day she did decent but yeah time will tell.

Yes, I see what you're saying. I guess I just meant that I don't want her to yell too much. And, I agree with you about the auto-tune etc.

I remember when Patti herself attempted autotune on that Labelle reunion song. I rolled my eyes so bad I thought they were gonna roll out of my face lol

Anyone can go back & listen to Patti's "Flame" CD. She's got 2 or 3 tracks on there that's Jazz/R&B fusion. Awesome vocals from her and probably her BEST solo recorded Gift to Popular music. A few songs on that Album need to be redone and released by other Artists..

Somewhere on the Album I want her to do Ella's "A Tisket a Tasket". Patti's baby-voice could rock that Ryme...
