Little Richard embodied the energy of Rock N Roll, I think the only person that came close to his almost unhinged performances was Jerry Lee Lewis.
Chuck Berry on the other hand in my mind popularised the electric guitar as a lead instrument, and wrote heaps of classic songs. So sad that he got screwed over with his money .
Hank Williams has a Rock N Roll sounding song, that sounds exactly the same as Bill Haley's Rock Around te Clock but predating if I remember correctly, can't remember the name. [Edited 4/27/13 19:22pm] |

Years ago i would say Richard in a heartbeat but there is so many other people besides Richard that helped contribute.
And most have been named like luis, Chuck, Fats, Muddy.
Richard is amazing and one of my all time favorites! but just putting him in the can and saying YES HIM HE CREATED ROCK N ROLL is a bit silly and Richard himself has drowned in his own hype Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Hell you could add jerry Lee Lewis to the list as well!
You know Richard is funny and he was treated like shit for years so i can see why he was angry about people stealing from him.
But he is way to into and thank's EVERYTHING in music is stolen from which while many artists did not every form of music has been stollen from Little Richard
He has gone way to deep into his own hype and he think's everyone clothes, hair, songs, singing etc. Is all borrowed from him
Just like how everyone think's everything in popular music was taken from The Beatles there is thousands of artists influenced by them but not EVERY genre or artist is trying to rip-off the fab four either.
I know. Like how he claimed Hendrix stole his headbands and ruffled shirts. Richard wasn't even rocking the headbands until AFTER Hendrix. He said Liberace stole his flamboyant wardrobe after they both appeared on Dick Cavett. He even said James Brown stole his capes lol (he also claimed Joe Tex came up with the dance steps before James did but now I just think he was pissed off at James for not claiming him as "starting him" or whatever lol). I do feel for Richard. Art Rupe ripped him off something terrible but he's not unique: lots of artists got ripped off. Plus his previous drug addiction/alcoholism probably warped his mind somewhat...you're never totally straight after blowing cocaine up your nose every other hour or shooting your veins with heroin and PCP and then taking a shot of Jack Daniels before getting into some drugged out orgy and going to sleep... |

As far as Little Richard is concerned it is remakable that his legacy rests on such a brief period of recordings. From roughly November, 1955-the end of 1957, basically just two years, he recorded most of his well known material. It really is a shame that he stopped right during his peak. He surely had at least a few more years of great rock and roll recordings in him but by the time he came back in the mid sixties he was unable to make much of an impact. |

I agree. He had something like 18 top 40 hits or something in that period. I truly believe had he not stopped so abruptly to try to be a Christian so hard he would've gotten more respect than he got. That part I think really messed his career up for the long run. He was lucky that rock and roll revivals were made to keep him in the limelight. |

I believe that Ike Turner gets the title of inventor. "THE architect", okay whatever you want to call it then. I guess we'll just call Chuck Berry an original pioneer. |

Richard did say Ike was the "real architect of rock and roll". He admitted stealing Ike's piano riff from "Rocket 88" for "Good Golly Miss Molly". |

For the Rolling stone top artists didn't he say "I don't call myself the architect of Rock N Roll, but I think it's true"
I do know he was the only person to write about himself for it, which was hilrious. |

He sure did! Richard's quite a character man, my God... I knew he was outrageous but recently I've reflected since reading his Wikipedia page and looking at his interviews on YouTube and thought "wow, he was really crazy!" |
