He's actually trying to quit smoking-now he's trying out those electronic smokeless cigarettes. He tweeted this on Mother's Day:
As far as I know he doesnt do any drugs. That time he got busted for coke possession was his first time and his last.

Entertainment Weekly: Bruno Mars Says His First #1 Hit Was Rejected Because of His Race
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It is a racist industry and I am glad he put this out in the media. The music industry pushes shitty and sterotypical rappers but does not have the time of day for anyone brown with an inch of talent because the simply do not believe they can cross over. It is ridculous. Bruno is good looking kid with catchy songs he skin color should have not been an issue. The world is changing people of color are large and in charge and the industry needs to wake up.

Bruno is one of the few artists I like right now. And he's kinda cute too.

I picked up a copy of EW this weekend and when I read that all I could do is smh This story is disturbing but not surprising. Its because of this narrow minded blind mentality that the music industry is in the shape its in today. These guys in suits--the music industry execs are so freakin out of touch its not even funny. Its all aboug IMAGE with them instead of genuine ART, TALENT and SUBSTANCE. There are a lot of great artists and musicians out there creating great music that millions would buy, but because they dont have the look or image these industry pimps want to feed the public, they wont get signed, or they get signed but pushed to the side, underpromoted and eventually dropped. How insulting for that stupid record exec to say to Bruno HIS song would be great for a white, blonde and blue eyed "artist". That goes to show you that these guys dont even want to deal with an actual artist. They dont want to even deal with an actual human being. What they want is a PRODUCT-something they can make into a BRAND that they can force feed the public and make millions of $$. And this is a major reason why music and the overall music industry sucks huge monkey balls today. I am glad for real artists like Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae who dont compromise who they are nor their craft and sell out to the industry machine. We need to have a clean sweep of the current executives who are ruining running the music industry today. Get rid of em and replace them with people who have a passion for nurturing and promoting true art, diversity and authenticity. In the meantime hopefully the dummies that are in charge at the moment will slowly but surely get the message that the public wants REAL artists with substance-not these marginally talented autotuned puppets they keep shoving down our collective throats. Done with rant. MJ L.O.V.E: https://www.facebook.com/...689&type=2 / YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/us...nderSilent

Another interesting thing is when doing other print interviews, Bruno has brought up this same story, but they never print it. SMH.

I wonder what it is about this dude that i cant stand?
I see that he has some talent..
I see that in a world full of pousers he actually deserves to be called a recording artist. but, I hate the dude's whole vibe for some reason-
he does nothing for me.. & i cant help thinking that people into him must be people that aren't very knowledgeable or deep.. strange.

The industry likes screwing actual songwriters too, apparently a pre-fame Neil Diamond got paid twenty bucks for writing "I'm a Believer" for the Monkees.

I cant help but think that people who go in threads and insult others for liking an artist they dont like are immature and desperate attention seekers with nothing else better to do with their time... Strange. MJ L.O.V.E: https://www.facebook.com/...689&type=2 / YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/us...nderSilent

I can't help but think that people that dont remember that this is a public forum where people are entitled to voice their own personal opinions are Lacking in knowledge ie: Ignorant ... strange.

^Voicing your own opinions are one thing, insulting others for their tastes is another. I dont care if you dont like Bruno, that's fine with me. But saying people who are into him arent knowledgeable or deep was unnecessary and uncalled for. Just say you dont like him, dont understand his appeal and keep it moving. I share that sentiment about many recording artists (not necessarily Bruno Mars, but e.g. many indie artists that get hyped by Pitchfork etc.). I don't think it's an uncommon sentiment among people that have listened to a lot of records.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Look dude there are people who don't wanna be deep or knowledgeable, this is music not a Picasso painting where everybody's trying to figure out the meaning of Picasso scrabbling shit like that.. You like Bruno or you don't it's okay, there are tons of people who respect his artistry and creativity as a musician, there are plenty of great musicians who praised his work and those musicians are themselves praised by Prince like Janelle Monaé and Beyoncé.
===
Bruno's music might be cheesy for the first time, but did anybody here gave Unorthodox Jukebox a real shot and taking it seriously as a Rock/Soul/Disco/Pop/Reggae Album? I seriously never been a fan of Bruno untill i heard Locked out of Heaven, i liked that vibe, i searched other songs by him and just like that went to be a fan of his work.. And i bet that almost everybody here is judging Bruno by his lyrics and previous ballads like Grenade or whatever... The guy has changed and created a new sound with his second album, producer Mark Ronson who's behind Amy Winehouse's Back to Black said that the man is the most talented artist he ever worked with..
And you said before "The guy has to break new grounds and try something new and risqué with his lyrics like Prince and MJ did back in the day...", well he made a sex song about Gorillas, he managed to bring the old sound perfectly unlike any other musician who tried to mixing different musical genres in his work (that's something JT or Miguel or anybody around will never get the balls to do).. And took a risque by making his last videos completely 70's-esque with 240p-like quality and that's something public is not familiar with. Or maybe just people here always look to Critics who don't give Bruno a chance for Critical acclaim like Frank Ocean or whoever.. Critics who rate his albums normally but in their reviews you see that they admit his talent as an innovator, at least.
I don't say Bruno Mars is the perfect musician of our time, i just say he's one of the best musicians, i seen enough live performances of him, enough interviews and everything else to admit that. Not to mention he's a showman and a great entertainer.. [Edited 5/22/13 12:51pm]

Well said! One of the things I love about Bruno is that he's not afraid to take risks and is dedicated to learning and growing his craft. He has said he's a student of music and I can tell he is and that he continues to study music because it shows in his music. You can see the growth he's had from his first album to this one. I'm already looking forward to his next album after Unorthodox Jukebox--cant wait to see the growth and change and what he brings to the table on the next one! I know not everybody loves him and some think he's a boring, uninspiring, unorginal artist and dont get his appeal. Its fine because people are entitled to their opinions although I disagree with them. Different strokes for different folks. But the kid has the talent and musical ingenuity to last in this business and I believe he will be around for a LONG time. He's just getting started and we aint seen nuthin yet! News Flash- The world doesn't revolve around you- I happen to know someone thats 36 years old that is a huge Brittney Spears fan. She also adores Lil Wayne, Beyonce, Chris Brown and guess who else??? Bruno Mars.. I was thinking of her when i made the comments that seemed to ruffle your feathers so much. And yes, I do see him in that group of so called "Artists".. I'm not sure why??? but he's corny to me.

^If you say so. All I know is you said that "people into him must not be very knowledgeable or deep." And while you may have been thinking about the lady you know who likes those artists, you said this in a thread where several people (not just me ) are either Bruno Mars fans or have expressed admiration for his music. Was I supposed to assume that your post was directed towards some 36 yr old lady who likes Bruno, Britney, Chris Brown, etc and not for anyone else here? Surely you were aware that there are several people in this thread who are into Bruno and his music and who would be less than thrilled with that comment

I'm so glad that Unorthodox Jukebox is getting praise by people here and other places, Bruno is really talented and he is one of the best things to come out from the industry these past yrs. I love that he is a student of music and takes the time to listen to music, unlike many of his peers. You can tell he knows many different types of music, because that's what you hear and he is always challenging himself and trying to make better things. I don't understand how people can think he is boring, because a latino-fillipino born in Hawaii cannot simply be boring in my eyes lol.. I'm pretty sure there are quite a few people who thought the same of P when he first came out. Couldn't stand the whiney falsetto, aesthetic, vibe.
