Just listened to this yesterday. I like it - it has a sort of 'Five Star meets Fela' vibe! The song's not quite as striking as the track, but it still works - and I'd give the album a listen on the back of this.

Me too ! I love it too, what I love the most with Kelis is that she can do all types of music and still be herself!

Someone must have took the sound off, the link is not working. Anyways, Ive always liked Kelis and look forward to her new music!

Don't you know by now that Kelis is always that NEXT schitt everyone else will want to copy for 2 years afterward? I will be surprised if EDM is on this new one.

True, Rihanna has taken so much inspiration from Kelis. Rihannas Loud album(november 2010) took so much from Kelis' Flesh Tone album from may 2010.

The artwork is fanmade. Whoever leaked the song called it "Call On Me". All of Kelis' official profiles say the title is "Jerk Ribs".

A few weeks ago, producer extraordinaire Dave Sitek (who also happens to be a member of a little band called TV on the Radio) sent Jason Bentley the new track from Kelis. Before I heard Jason announce the artist, I was completely in love with the song. It’s super vibey, unexpected, and interesting. I mean, those horns!

I was a bit surprised to see Kelis (the one whose milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard…) was behind it. Then I found out even more — that they had drawn a pro-team of LA musicians into Dave’s studio Federal Prism, including a frequent visitor to KCRW’s studios Todd Simon, who had arranged the horns and strings.

Todd gives us a little behind the scenes scoop on how it all came about:

“Kelis is an amazing chef! She’s a graduate from Le Cordon Bleu, believe it or not. So, one of the first nights we all were working at Federal Prism, Kelis showed up with some freshly cooked Jerk Ribs. They are out of this world! This was the night that she began to track vocals on what is now called “Jerk Ribs”.

Kelis is also an amazing human being. Usually artists like herself, make it through the music industry and end up bitter and negative. But Kelis is full of positivity! She’s definitely one of the guys and has none of the barriers most artists at her stature possess. This all is coming out in the new music we are making.

She’s insisted on the use of live instruments. Dave and I have assembled an incredible band featuring members of RHYE, The Decoders, Ethio Cali, the Beastie Boys, Florence and the Machine, etc. There is a great vibe amongst everybody involved. It’s been a very fun project to be a part of. The album is full of lush horn and string arrangements, African meets Southern Soul rhythms, and rich guitars.”

That's amazing and I've heard she's a really nice person! I'm glad there are horns & string arrangments! I can't wait for this new album! Let her know she has a huge fanbase in Sweden!

Kelis is set to release her brand new album this September.

The follow-up to 2010's 'Flesh Tone' has been produced by TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek, who also worked on Beady Eye's forthcoming second album, 'BE'.

The album – which has the working title 'FOOD' – will be released on Sitek's own Federal Prism label, reports Pitchfork.

Last year Kelis premiered the song 'Distance', which was produced by Magnetic Man's Skream. It is not known if this will feature on her sixth album.

Kelis spoke to NME at last summer's Isle Of Wight Festival and opened up about her progress in writing her new album, which she said she was "midway through".

She explained: "I'm sort of midway I guess. It's exciting though, it's more electro, it's a little deeper and darker."

Honestly, both having that retro-soul/funk appeal to it, I'm feeling way more Kelis' Jerk Rib than Janelle's Q.U.E.E.N.

Exatcly. She's amazing in many genres. Electronic music, rnb, hip hop... And Neptunes peak was the recordings they did with her.
