I saw this topic before, but skipped it for later. Okay yeah, I've watched some Linn demos on youtube and they are interesting and learnfull. One of the first times that I read about the drum machine was in an interview with Donald Fagan, during his album "The Nightfly" in 1982. I haven't listened to that album for some time, so I am not sure on which tracks the Linn appears. I would have to check also other releases or read in credits of those where the Linn is used. Great instrument and cool list of songs in your first post! - [Edited 4/17/13 13:22pm]

Agree with the Peter Gabriel shout - other favorite tracks from that album for the drum patterns are Kiss Of Life and I Have The Touch.

. . How Prince programmed the drum track for that tune warrants a Grammy nomination today alone.

Morris was a terrific drummer, but I never heard any interesting drum programming on his solo efforts, and the best drum tracks on early The Time was Prince. I don't see how Prince would not be capable of programming it. It's far easier to program than to play it live. He just usually favored minimalistic drums that gave more room for melody, vocals and other textures etc. Just listening to what this man did almost alone in 78. He has an ear for composition My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

Was he responsible for the intricate rhythm patterns in ballad of Dorothy Parker too? I'm pretty sure Prince did both. I gotta hear Mechanical Emotion again.
