Erasure is Yaz 2.0. Yaz was THE BADDEST electro new wave band before Depeche Mode, NIN or whatever.
The keyboardist/composer is the same guy in both bands (Erasure and Yaz -- Yazoo over in the UK). They just put out a greatest hits or sumpm, and they're on tour. [This message was edited Mon Mar 10 15:27:07 PST 2003 by otan] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Is she still big in the UK? I remember the 1st time hearing Erasure on the radio thinking it was Yaz, but the singer sounded weird...I was in shock that not only was it a different singer but it was a GUY! He's obviously is a good singer too. I always liked the album with A Little Respect on it and I also have 2 Ring Circus (which was very popular at my college for some reason).

Yaz singer: Allison Moyet. Still doing stuff. I saw her website a few months ago, but can't find the link now. She's done lots of stuff - some theatre I think. I don't remember now.
I agree - I thought it was the same band at first... and basically the keyboardist just found a replacement. Her first solo single was "Love Resurrection" - track it down if you can, it was pretty good. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Favorite tracks: Ghost Truly, Madly, Deeply A Long Goodbye Home Piano Song Stay with Me Leave Me To Bleed

Victim of love is a slammin piece of pop music! I also liked You Surround Me from the Wild! album. I heard their Loveboat Cd was a real return to form but never managed to hear it.

The keyboardist/composer is the same guy in both bands (Erasure and Yaz -- Yazoo over in the UK). Vince Clarke was actually in Depeche Mode before he started Yazoo. Some people are like Slinkies...

She continued to be really big as a solo artist over the mid eighties, in fact she had two no. 1 solo albums. Check out Alf or Raindancing, both brilliant albums that really showcase her voice. She then disappeared for a while, had a brief comeback in '94 and then vanished again, before returning as star of the stage show of Chicago in London (she played the part that Queen Latifah played in the film). She then returned with what some critics regard as her finest solo album in 2002, which got her nominated for a Brit award (UK version of the grammies) for best female artist. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

1987, I was 15 & my first exposure to Erasure
-you'll love this Violett open for Duran Duran. I thought they were great and rushed out to get their stuff. At the time I liked that Vince pretty much did all of the music himself and it was all tech-sounding synth everything and catchy. To me at the time -I know easy on me now I thought that Erasure was real funky I made a fat Erasure tape for my best friend who was a few years older than me. We listed to Prince together all of the time & I figured this Erasure stuff would be right up his ally. Gave him the tape, told him to dig the funky mix. He came over 2 days later with JB & Parlament/Funkadelic records he borrowed from his older brother & his parents, gave me back my tape, told me it sucked, and then played me the Hot Pants album for the first time! This is funky. He said. "Midnight is where the day begins"
