Hi this is the Tammi Terrell Appreciation Thread , I made this because her birthday is coming up April 29th . I'll be posting more and a book review on my sister Tommie by her sister ludie
Born Thomasina Winifred Montgomery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she entered the music business at the age of 13, regularly performing live. In 1961 she was signed to the fledgling Scepter Records (later Wand Records), recording under the name "Tammy Montgomery". After coming to the attention of James Brown she recorded one single apiece for Brown's own Try Me record label and, in 1964, Checker Records. The year after that, she was spotted by Berry Gordy Jr. while playing live, and signed to his Motown label. Attractive and talented, she became romantically linked with both James Brown and David Ruffin, lead singer of the The Temptations during the mid-1960s.
I liked this book a lot , It's very entertaining. The beginning was the best it talked about her life in Philly , father's business and their mother's absence because of her illness. It also talks about her bout with segregation in Colombia , SC and her falling in pig slop . It also sadly talks about her rape and how it was swept under the rug but she boldly identified them. It also talks about her adventures to New Jersey where her father owned a hotel/bed and breakfast. It talks about her and friends in high school such as Lola Falana

It also talks about her and her father debating about her education and show business. Also Ludie puts the rumour to sleep about David Ruffin no a hammer , a motorcycle helmet and it didn't cause her death. Anyways it talks about her new romance , Marvin Gaye and testimonials of people who met her. There is one chapter ALL I DO IS THINK ABOUT YOU about Ludie handling the death of her sister. Also a bunch of rare pictures

I wonder if there was more covered about James' rough treatment of her in the book. I remember reading on Panache Report years ago that during one argument, James hit her in the face with the butt of an umbrella!
