KC were a fun band but Chickis miles ahead of them imo.

Nile Rodgers wrote better and somewhat more meaningful lyrics and the bass was NOT to be fucked with.. i am a bass player so i am a nerd on that lol razz

Plus Niles Rodgers producton was fantastic! it's not wonder he went on to be one of the mos prolific producers of the 80's.

I prefer KC .. The hits that they made were a little bit more in the part of the 70s that i prefer.

I get lifted is a JAM! Chic were a bit too disco for me but Amazing as well..

I have a KC show from 1975 They are baaaaaad!

Really entertaining and much beter performers than chic ever were.

If Carousal is pissed at you for THIS thread, then that's his/her personal problem.

.

If Carousal is pissed at me for my answer to your question, then he/she can kiss my black ass. I said that KC gets the edge because of the horn section and I still stand by my words. mr.green

I love both bands, but I think Chic was the superior band.Bernard Edwards and Niles Rodgers created a totally unique sound that was very influential. In the early 80s,there were many songs on the radio that had that 'Chic sound'.And let's not forget the amazing records that they produced for Diana Ross ('Diana',which was her biggest-selling album) and Sister Sledge ('We Are Family').

As much as I admire KC & The Sunshine Band,I think they were more of a singles band. They had some of the catchiest singles of the disco era,but I can't say that any of their albums are essential. On the other hand,Chic's C'est Chic and Risque are classic albums from that era.

Because the simple truth is that black folk cannot get credit for their talent. People on this very topic are going to pick KC over Chic for one reason only.

Read Nile Rodger's book he lays out the rasism in the music industry and all the crap that CHIC got back in the day despite that fact that he went on to be a top writer and producer for all of the 80s.

Do you know what KC was doing in the 80s' musically?

C H I C !!!

of course!

Chic wasn't your plain ol' disco... they were a band first and foremost and played a mix of sophisticated soul/funk/dance. Their music continues to influence so many artists and of course "Good Times" practically kickstarted rap music.

Just like the white winged dove...

Exactly nod the Chic sound was much more influential. It's shameful that were labeled a "disco band" when they were doing so much more than that (i.e,jazzy instrumentals like "Savoir Faire" and effective soul ballads like "At Last I Am Free").Bernard Edwards' funky basslines were unlike anything else at the time.

I love Chic. I never thought KC had any fans outside of people that go to the city parks where they do concerts and jam to their biggest hits.

Isn't MUSIC something that everyone has the right to have there own opinions about?

Ask a vegitarian if she likes the BIG MAC and she may say YUCK!!!!

Ask a Meat and potatoes girl if she likes veggie burgers made out of beans with soy cheese

& she may say YUCK!!!

Nobody that truly knows the history of dance music can deny that either of these groups weren't influential and hugely popular. But,

Some people like their funk Deep and Soulful, while Some like it Immediate and Fun &

Most people enjoy a bit of everything when the mood calls for it.

Facts.

Chic had two Major US #1 hits:

"Le Freak" and "Good Times"

Kc & the Sunshine band had Five Major US #1 hits:

"Get Down Tonight" /"Thats the way (I like it)"/ "(Shake Shake Shake) Shake your booty"

"I'm your Boogie Man" & "Please Don't Go"

It doesn't matter that Nile and Bernard were Amazing Musicians & Producers

Or that Kc & the sunshine band were as well...

Personally I find Kc & the sunshine band in their Prime to be better performers and simply more Fun than Chic...

But I own and enjoy all their stuff!

KC & the Sunshine Band for me. That horn section does it for me. By the time Chic released their first album, KC had already reached their peak.

that's true nod KC and the Sunshine Band reached their peak with their 1976 album Part 3.Subsequent albums weren't nearly as good.Their 1978 album Who Do Ya Love is disappointing, imo. They were more of a singles band. You don't really need their albums, you just need a good compilation of the hits.

IMO, KC and the Sunshine Band were more Funk than Disco. They rank up there with James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic, Cameo, just to name a few. While Chic was very much Disco. Both were great groups, but different rhythms and genres.

the thing about KC and the Sunshine Band is....they came up with these incredibly catchy hooks, but the verses don't have many words in it,so all you're left with is the chorus being repeated over and over and over...lol...their songs are extremely repetitive. This isn't really a criticism, just an observation wink I think the Chic songs are more fleshed out."I Want Your Love",for example,is an amazing composition.

I like KC but Chic get's my vote hands down, they have a stronger catalog of music and they had two of the best musicians ever IMO, Bernard Edwards and the underrated Tony Thompson
