Chaka Khan to be inducted into the Apollo Theater's Hall of Fame  Chaka Khan performs during BET Networks 2013 Los Angeles Upfront at Montage Beverly Hills on April 2, 2013, in Beverly Hills, Calif. / Getty R&B star Chaka Khan will be inducted into the Apollo Theater's Hall of Fame.
The New York theater announced that Patti LaBelle and Mary J. Blige will perform in Khan's honor at its New York gala on June 10. The annual event raises funds for the Apollo's education and community outreach programs.
Khan and Blige received a Grammy Award together in 2008 for "Disrespectful."
Singer-songwriter Lionel Richie and the late Etta James were inducted last year into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame.
Other previous inductees include LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin, to name just a few.
Sarah Jessica Parker will present this year's corporate award to Time Warner Inc.
Khan, meanwhile, has a handful of concert dates lined up this year. She will release "The iKhan Project: Commemorative Limited Edition" collection on April 30 and is also working on a new jazz-oriented album due out later this year. © 2013 CBS Interactive Inc. Congrats to the undisputed Queen of Funk Ms. Chaka and all the Awards that keep rolling in. Where in the world is she keeping them? Probably at her sister house...
I Love me some Patti but Patti sounds well, not so good singing "I'm every woman"...LOL....Patti PLEASE, please, PLEASE sing "Gotta be there" or maybe, just maybe "Through the Fire".....or better yet Patti need to do "My Funny Valentine".......
My advice to Ms. Patti is just BELT any of Chaka's songs from begining to end and you'll still get an Ovation...You're Chaka's sister that's why she asked you to be there...Chaka won't care how you sing her song because she loves you. | |

But the question is what will be the roles for Patti and Mary? I'm assuming Mary do all the singing and Patti would just talk to the crowd about her. Patti can still sing but judging from her recent performances, I don't know if she has the vocal energy to "belt it out". She can occasionally hit it every now and then so it would be interesting to see what happens. "Through the Fire" does sound like something she could handle. | |

The Press Articles all say Marry & Patti will be performing. You could be right. Mary could be singing and Patti will introduce Chaka. I bet thats how it will go down.
I've seen some of the Vids of Patti's most recent performances. She's simply not doing her trademark wailing through each set. So people think something is wrong. I recall Patti saying about 5yrs ago that she's at a place in her Career where if she feels like sitting down and singing she's going to do it because she can. Her singing voice is still great she's just not giving POWER. If she came to my city today I'd pay Hundreds to see her... | |
