Sparkle: Which Version Was Better IYO?

Which version of Sparkle was the best version?

1976

2012

IMO, the 1976 version was a lot more grittier, where the 2012 version was waay too Hollywood for me.

i thought u actually meant the song ''Sparkle'' from Curtis. Either the one performed by Curtis or the one performed by Aretha. I think the Curtis version is the best, and one of my favorite songs of alltime....

1976:

- Raw , showing what could happen in show buisines

- Acting was good

- The decade potrayed (50s) was awesome how they

- Album sung by aretha was the best

- Songs giving him something he can feel was so so

2012

- I like the motown era

- Hair styles and wardrobe were good

- The soundtrack was very good:headbang:

- It wasn't really potraying everything , well it wasn't "raw"

I like both but 76 version

The original by far. The remake completely changed the plot and storyline. It lost a sense of urgency by doing so. The original was bleak, dark, and you sensed the girl's reasons for leaving or running away. It was a sign of the times. I don't think replacing the pimps, drug dealers with a comedian did the new version any favors. I didn't like the new Sparkle at all. The remake also left out a pivotal scene, Sista singing, Giving Up Is Hard To Do.

That scene can bring me to tears every time I watch it. Lonette McKee played the hell out of that role. In the original, Irene Cara sang Precious Lord in the funeral scene, and it was also so moving. The Williams sisters in 1976 still ourshine the new version in my opinion. Yes, the original looks low budget and gritty, but it's still one of my favorite movies. A classic. I wouldn't make any effort to see the 2012 version again. Once was enough for me. I don't think this movie needed a remake to begin with.

The original turned me onto Donny Hathaway's Giving Up Is Hard To Do. So haunting & real! Just don't listen to it while you're sad. sad
