New funky bands/artists (got any examples?)

Post examples of modern artists that do funky music. It can be puristic or nostalgic retro bands that tries to emulate what was and has been, it can be artists that tries out new directions, or simply som avant garde stuff that is changing music history as we speak.

Here are a couple of modern artists I know of that are putting a modern touch to old mplsound and electronic funk/boogie:

Emile the Duke

Maya Vik

Cool jams by Emile the Duke and Maya Vik cool Imagewise, Emile somewhat reminds me of the group ABC (Look Of Love, etc...) and Maya vaguely resembles an updated vibe of Jane Child (Don't Wanna Fall In Love) lol. This is the first time I see both those clips, and from Maya i've spotted another black & white video before, with a cool intro of her silhouette grooving on a bass or a guitar.

I haven't followed the brand newest jams of lately, but a few years back I heard first here on the forum the track "Bonafide" by singer Amalia who's belting out Chaka-ish parts, and backed up by synth chameleon Opolopo:

-

Sometime before that I heard tight versions with wild synths and which Opolopo had remixed for Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" and Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" + "Billie Jean". Those remixes were broadcasted at an online radio stream, but the dj didn't really announce Opolopo's name, so I discoverd about that info later by coincidence lol. Tweaking keys kat...

I've seen great posts about new funk before on the org, posted by and commented on by various forum visitors. I've noticed also other topics with excellent recommendations, posted by or participated by previous orger enfantdumilieu . Her/his name might indicate that she/he is French and too bad that the account is closed. I always digged those posts. France is known for their active scene of 70s/80s electro boogie funk soul and beyond.

Yes, there was talk about Maya Vik's first album in prince.org two years ago, thanks to enfantdemileu. I remember Replica took part in the discussion. Maya has already published her second album and it's very, very interesting. The Japanese version has a cover of "Oh Sheila", the Prince-inspired Ready For The World song.

I see that Emile the Duke also comes from Norway. There seems to be many Norwegian musicians inspired by Prince!

Thanks for good examples! Funk is not dead. Good to see Daft Punk back too.

I also have some released some music myself. My production, as well as my brother on rap vocals. I used Linn samples, microkorg, bass guitar, and sang the hook... late night groove...

Knower was pretty damn cool. Lovin' the a bit hysterical feel without missing the funk and groove.
