This woman has to be one of the most underrated female singers of all time. She definitely doesn't get the credit she deserves (in any genre).

Ottensen

When I was a young tween, this remake was THE song to have a major crush to: they used to play it around 9pm every night on the Slow Jam/Quiet Storm radio program, and if you didn't have a boy to sneak on the phone and talk to after your parents were settling down to sleep, you could call & commiserate with your best friend on your secret crushes/unrequited school lunchroom loves. Honey we were in 6 & 7th grade listening to this and believing this song was the story of our lives lol

Identity

"So Glad I Know" and "His Eyes Are on The Sparrow", songs she recorded in the mid-80s, are some of her best. Her pop hits overshadow that era of her storied career.

The sad part is that she never had many pop hits.

"So Glad I Know" is an excellent album. I still listen to that a lot. I love "Just In Time" and her version of "I Surrender All."

nod this is another example of an artist remaking a song, and making it her own.Not just anybody can do this.

her 1982 Niecy album (produced by Thom Bell) is also excellent. It's probably her finest work.Several years ago,it was remastered with very informative liner notes, and alot of insightful comments from Deniece. One interesting thing that she mentioned: she wanted to continue working with producer Thom Bell, but after Niecy, they made her switch to George Duke.

I agree, and I can't believe that Columbia broke off their collaboration, after two excellent albums confused They were on a roll.

Yeah,I think they wanted her to go in a pop/uptempo direction, which is the opposite of what Thom Bell was doing.

One of the best covers and she did it and made it her own. Deniece is just one of the FEW with vocal talent that never really got her due but is a LEGEND in my mind. Truly one of the GREATS!!!!

Except for the three single releases, IMO, "Let's Hear It For the Boy" was probably her second weakest album release of the 80's, next to "Hot On the Trail". I don't know what on earth they were thinking when they came up with that one.eek
