Spotted on OKP: Billy Beck (Ohio Players, Shadow), unsung composer of "The Greatest Love Of All". Noticed the interview being posted there in the Lesson Forum. In case who's interested, check the convo with deep memories and quotes. -

So yeah, I'm not sure if that story about the song was told about in TV One's unsung episode of the Players, but here it is anyway. The group was asked to record music for the soundtrack of the Muhammad Ali movie "The Greatest". When they arrived at the studio their equipment wasn't there yet. Producer Michael Masser wasn't having that, and Satch from the Players quickly asked Billy if he could impress the producer by playing some doodles on the grand piano which was there in the studio. While he played, microphones and electra were being added around him. Despite that, the group never got the deal in the end to record for the soundtrack, however, Billy's grand doodling was used and resulted in "The Greatest Love Of All" without Beck being credited for the track.
