Underrated lol ? You do realise if it wasn't for George Michael this song would have topped the charts right?

Back in 1988 lol

I mean people have had huge hits that don't get much airplay years later. I have never heard this song get played or mentios on the org razz lol

yeah i think the issue was that Elton was a 70's guy (for his biggest hits) when 1980 rolled around Elton was considered at the end of his "honeymoon period" meaning, you cant always BE THE GUY, topping charts etc....and Elton was at that point even though he was still big, his reign of hit after hit after hit was ending, kind of like the run the Bee Gees had from 1975-1980 where they owned the charts, from 1972-till almost the end of the decade Elton owned the charts. BUT with 70's stars people feel that they cant have good stuff in other decades, and to me Elton had some solid albums in the 80's and then again some of his best work in the 00's. This track was a huge hit, number 2, ironically kept out by George Michael whom Elton had worked with on the "Ice on Fire" record and of course their Number 1 duet. This was a great live song too, from the Reg Strikes Back album, which wasnt a great album but wasnt horrible by far.

It's okay, but kind of at the beginning of the period of his music where he seemed to lose a lot of the interesting variety in his melodies.

He's always had bluesy melodies, but they've always gone somewhere, and this one seems to be stuck in a range of about 5 notes (with the exception of the line "I just wanna tell you honey I ain't mad")

I know he had throat issues, and can't hit all the same notes as he could, but I think it's more than that. Something happened to him, melodically, and his melodies are what made him who he is.
