How does a flop album with no hits affect mainstream music at all?
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
There was still a lot of good mainstream music until Get Low by Lil John became the song of 2003. That song is now considered a classic.
Of course there have been way worse rap hits since.
There some others that I can't even look up on youtube without barfing.

I thought her album moved more copies than Off the Wall did that same year.

There were a lot more pop acts than Debbie Gibson and Kylie back then. There was also this little thing called BALANCE. First of all, most of the acts you named actually had talent; some were just corny. For every Debbie Gibson, you also had a Whitney Houston. The music market was not circled around CHILDREN like it is now. Now, the industry is on some Logan's Run sh*t. When you turn 30, they try to kill you (careerwise). There were grown people doing grown music and the pop music was split. Teens did teen stuff and adults did adult stuff. There was room for a Bob Dylan and NKOTB on the charts. When labels started streamlining in the 90s, thats when the standards started dropping. Image became more important than music and stars became disposeable and the music industry had an age ceiling. Back then, nobody would have ever said "you are too old to be doing music" like you hear some of these kids saying now. That's because about 85% of the music in the mainstream now is mindless, immature drivel created by idiots who don't know shit about music. That is the difference between then and now.

Some people think that it started with new wave making rock all synthy and "tin can" drums, so it all depends on what you like.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Where it started is less important than when it took over. The problem isn't in the existience of mind-numbingly dumbass music. The problem is when its your only option.

Almost!
I couldn't mention Lil'Suzy, Lisette Melendez, Angelina, & Collage because they're from the early 90's, NOT the 80's.

I've been using the Logan's Run reference to describe the attitude about the entertainment industry as a whole, as well as some parts of corporate America.
