Artists Judging On Talent Competitions

I'm trying to understand what the point of artists like Mariah Carey & Usher is for being on shows like American Idol & The Voice, accept for earning a hefty paycheck. I watch both shows and think the Voice is actually more credible than AI. I think the people featured on The Voice are generally vocally stronger than AI contestants. Usher IMO is a pop/r&b megastar with tons of hits and longevity in the music industry. I think him being on the show is kind of a bad look. Does this mean he is through with recording music? Adam Levine on the other hand, should be thankful for being on The Voice because I think it raised his status as an "artist". Maroon 5 are shit and he needs to be doing something else to stay relevant. I love Mimi but I think her being on AI is a big step down. First of all the show is falling to pieces and almost considered a joke. The ratings haven't been good in years and I see her as an icon. After Whitney Houston, next in line was Mariah in terms of having a great voice and being influential to aspiring singers. What the hell is she doing on this show???

To be honest it should be like its done in Norway, for ONE SEASON only, Magne Furuholmen the keyboard/writer of the band a-ha, judged this show (well there version of it) BUT unlike in america where they turn you loose and your gone in a month till the next so called winner. HERE the judge that picks the winner has to actually work with the artist, take them along, record their first album with them in some way etc....When they asked Magne to do a second season he said NO because as he put it "I judged the winner, now im honoring my obligation" he also has been putting in his own money on the project. SHIT imagine that here, never would happen. Mainly because 90% of the judges have nothing artistic to offer to others

I like the way this sounds much better. Have them there for maybe 1 season and really work closely with the artists. Almost like a mentor situation, showing them the ropes, etc. I feel the way it's done on AI just seems weird for certain artists like Mimi. I just feel she could do a lot better. I heard Demi Lovato will be back on the X Factor as a judge. What a joke. Who wants criticism from someone who makes such disposable "music".

exactly the word he used "Mentoring" thats what they have to do, its part of the show, i know here they talk about it, and then they bring in someone to mentor for a week and then the contestants do karoake (thats what it is) to the MENTORS songs. Which to me is not mentoring at all, the judges have no involvement, you are getting a guest to come in who isnt there really to mentor they are usually there to promote their new work.
