Why choose? I prefer Marvin, but be glad (1) we had both and (2) their music continues to live on long after their deaths. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I admire both of them but im going with Sam Cooke because to me, he was the first to start it..coming out of quartet singing with The Soul Stirrers then going pop/r&b...yeah gott go with him, hinestly i didnt know how great of an entertainer and singer this man was until I heard "Wonderful", "Be With Me Jesus", "A Change Is Gonna Come"...now Marvin was great too, but i think he learned a lot from him

I adore Sam Cooke, and I think Marvin Gaye is a wonderful singer/artist too. They can't be compared... it's not fair on either of them!

Love Sam, but Marvin will always be my alltime favorite.

I don't think I've EVER seen a site in all of cyber-space that was BOLD enough to ask "Sam or Marvin?"..LOL...
This is an EASY choice for me because it ALWAYS, always, ALWAYS goes back to my favorite form of Music. I love all forms of music but "Gospel" is my favorite and forever moves my Soul and Lifts me up...
So I'm def going with Sam. No matter what that Brotha sang you could ALWAYS hear the Church in him...
