Sony Pictures Worldwide takes Spinning Gold

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has made a multi-territory deal for Foresight Unlimited's Neil Bogartbiopic Spinning Gold. The announcement was made on the eve of the Cannes Film Market.

The film will tell the rags to riches story of music legendNeil Bogart, who grew up in the Glenwood Houses, the housing projects in the Flatlands section of Brooklyn in the 1950s. The artist defined pop music during his time and was credited with discovering acts such as Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Gladys Knight, KISS, Parliament, Donna Summer and the Village People. He died of cancer and lymphoma in 1982 at the age of 39.

Justin Timberlake will be starring in the film as the infamous record executive, who was a big part with the rise of disco. Mark Damon's Foresight Unlimited is financing and producing the project with the legend's son Timothy Scott Bogart, who also wrote the script.

Mark Damon had this to say about the deal.

A director has not been announced, but they are expecting to start production early next year.

Tasha Smith ("Why Did I Get Married") has expressed a desire to play Donna Summer in a movie,but I think she may be too old? This film is going to deal with Donna's early years (she was with Casablanca from 1975-1980),so I'm thinking the actress should be a little younger.
