Slave, if ony because they have so many offsprings that jam too!

I actually thought about this, too. But accounting for the side-projects, spinoffs & production work of each just made my head hurt all the more in choosing lol

Cameo: La Connection, Mantra, MCB, Wynd Chymes, Cashflow, Tomi's solo joints, Icemosis soundtrack....plus assd production credits

Slave: Aurra, Arrington solo stuff, Drac, Civil Attack, Slave-Aurra Crew, Deja, Steve Washington's solo....plus assd production credits

It was the Aurra stuff that pushed me over the top for Slave.

You forgot to mention Charlie Singleton's three solo albums which are all slammin!!!!

they were phased out big time by the Pop Ascension movement.......and it happened fast....

Cameo was sampled all the way to the rooter w/this song.......

but what's crazy....the original is way better.....

Both groups stand in their own right with their own sound. I've read the great side projects here in the topic. Man, the Slave-Aurra Project... for years I was informed about it's existence, until I finally got a hold of it lol. Wanna add to the Cameo camp The Malemen's "Express Male" album from 1984 (Antony Lockett production), Antony Lockett's single "Decisions" from 1983, Jeryl Bright's single "Electric Body" from 1986, bassist Aaron Mills who released through Chess and Sugar Hill singles as Vitamin A, productions for Barbra Mitchell, Bobby Brown, Eddie Murphy, Howard Kenney, Charles Earland, The Reddings and the late George Howard. Interesting spinoff-act from Steve Arrington's Hall Of Fame is the group Legion, with one single called "Guarantee" (b-side: "City's Jumpin"). That project includes bassist Wayne "Buddy" Hankerson with the brothers Charles "Cedell" Carter and Sam Carter. As Slave was still a full force in 1983 on the front album cover, by 1984 the group is represented as a trio on the back cover with minimal horns, on their "New Plateau" album (save for Aubrey Rivers on saxophone). Even the usual trombone contribution by Floyd Miller is missing in 1984. Floyd poses with that horn again on 1987's "Make Believe" album. Also 2 years before that, there were tight horn riffs added to Slave's "You Thrill Me" song. Cameo's "Style" album from 1983 is completely without horns, as their electric wave started to roll then. Two of my top choice tracks from both groups: "Hangin' Downtown" and "Steal Your Heart".

Git it mayne! square The other side's track, "City's Jumpin" has a vocal breakdown which imo is similar to Steve Arrington's voicing. From Charlie Singleton' earlier album mentions in here, my most fave is "Earth To Mickey". I can see why Chaka choose to cover it. Tight jam with synths. I also dig his pre-Cameo/solo single
