I've been laughing at this photograph ever since a couple years ago when Tina pretty much called Aretha a prima dona and Aretha responded by saying Tina doesn't know anything about her and that they have never met. Aretha was looking at Tina in this photo like she had absolutely no idea who she was. Either that or she didn't like what Tina was saying. Not one bit. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Most Blacks don't believe that myth that ALL Biracial babies are pretty cuz most of us have seen PROOF that that aint the case. But you still have the younger Generation like my younger 20-something Jet Black Brother that has low-self-esteem about himself & his complexion and feel having mixed Babies will make him feel better about himself...That's so, so sad...It's sad and DANGEROUS when people bring babies into this world for SELFISH reasons...To me that's a DANGEROUS rout to take and may God be with ALL those innocent babies that just wanna be Loved...
Thanks for posting that pic of ReRe, Tina & Lena...Very RARE that you get to see pics of stars interacting during commercials or after the show...Pics like that get lost...
I give CREDIT to Essence's 1993 Entertainment Producer and the shows Executive Producer...We've NEVER seen an awards show with Anita Baker, Lena Horne, Aretha, Rosa Parks & Patti all in the same night...Whoever BOOKED those stars gets props from me....
A while back On the Chaka Khan message board someone defended Aretha's BLASTING of Beyonce & Tina by saying that even though Tina & Aretha were Tributed @ the 1993 Essence Awards they probably didnt meet...Well we see from the pic Tina got out of her seat to speak to ReRe & Lena..Maybe that was the last time the twoQueens were in the same room together and Aretha simply forgot...But we all know Aretha is just Aretha...LOL...She means what she says and says what she means...
If you Guys check out that Tina Tribute Video you'll notice that was probably the FIRST & last time we ever sawa Huge number of White people during an Essence Awards png...LOL... [Edited 4/8/13 2:41am]

1. Beyonce (with & without Destiny's Child) is hip-hop/r&b, NOT r&b/soul. She did become dance-pop later. . 2. Rihanna is mostly dance-pop/EDM.

I wonder why Stephanie and Chante kissed Tina but Karyn didn't? Anyway, I always thought they should have picked someone else besides Karyn White to take part in the tribute. Karyn doesn't have the voice to pull off a Tina song, especially "What's Love Got To Do With It". Vesta would have been a perfect choice. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Pretty good show. I'm glad they acknowledged Tina Turner and Donna Summer. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I didn't know Mary J. sold over 50-Million records ************************************************************** Didn't know Janet sold over 100-Million records but I figured she was close ******************************************************** Didn't know Aretha sold over $50 Million records ********************************************** I Love MiMi Cannon & all her Catalog is shared by the Pop & R&B Charts but she's more of a Pop Diva than R&B in my opinion. ********************************************** Chaka wins The Most mentioned "Best Voice" award.
********************************** They said Great things about My Patti but they talked like she was an Iconic Best Friend or a Relative Vs her Huge Voice. At the end they said Nobody does it better than Patti but I was looking for more meat. *******************************************
I give TV1 credit for finding people that I wouldnt call "Media-Fan" Favorites. Everyone they interviewed actually thought before they spoke and seemed to be sincere. [Edited 5/1/13 4:36am]

I've always considered Nippy more of a Pop singer than an R&B singer but both have had huge success on the R&B charts. But, IMO, Nippy was more Pop than Mimi. I mean, Nippy was recording Micheal Masser songs for goodness sakes!
Last time I checked, Mimi was right behind Mary J as the most successful female singers on the R&B charts over the past 25 years. Or it could be the other way around. Mimi was either #1 or #2.
And Lord knows Beyonce and Rhianna had no business on that list. There is nothing Rhythm or Bluesy about either one of them. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I thought it was interesting when they kept saying NO ONE can hit Whistle Notes but Mariah. "She's the ONLY one"...Chante Moore broke it down for'em..Then there's Shanice and The Great Rachell Farrell.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Isnt it interesting that Rachell Farrell looks like a Light-skin Whoopi Goldberg? Whoopi's daughter was on The View and she could pass for Rachell's look-a-like...Whoopi is a Music fanatic and I bet she's seen Rachell in New York city or Jersey. I wonder if they ever talked about each others family Tree?

* * * First of all let me say that any so-called "lists" that excludes Gladys automatically relinquishes any credibility. Furthermore, including Rihanna & Beyonce is just shameful. * Tina Turner looked hot in that strapless joint. I don't know how old she was but she still could've got it. Lena Horne was gorgeous as always. * What do you mean by Chante broke it down for 'em? Did she she sing on the new show? Chante was always overshadowed by Mariah's success during t he 90's but she too could hit those notes with ease. Likewise, Shanice and Rachell.

Chante said one of the REASONs Mrs. Cannon is a Diva is due to the Whistle Notes and you know Chante had to show-off her Gift on camera...It was Effortless...LOL....

Chante was over-shadowed by Mariah because Chante had shit management and was with a label that wasn't willing to spend a nickel to cross her over behind an R&B audience. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

* * * Yeah, I recall those days all too well. I remember being floored by her voice and beauty when she first came on the scene in the early 90's. She was on a new label, Silas Records at the time if I remember right. Although I loved her debut record, I thought it was a little mature in its sound for an artist her age. She started out with heavyweights like George Duke producing her.
