Depeche Mode's New Album, Delta Machine

January 25, 2013

Link

Depeche Mode has revealed full details about the band’s upcoming 13th studio album.

Delta Machine, the follow-up to 2009’s Sounds of the Universe, will arrive in stores on March 26. The standard release will feature 13 new tracks, while a deluxe edition will include four extra tracks: “Long Time Lie,” “Happens All the Time,” “Always” and “All That's Mine.”

“With this release we’ve completely shifted our idea of how to create an album,” frontman Dave Gahan said in a statement. “When we hit a wall where we realize the album is beginning to sound too normal, we’ll mess it up and really give it that organic Depeche Mode Sound. Delta Machine is no different, and I can’t wait for all of our fans to hear it.”

You’ll get your first taste of the new material when a video for the album’s first single, “Heaven,” is released on February 1.

Here is the track list:

“Welcome to My World”
“Angel”
“Heaven”
“Secret to the End
“My Little Universe”
“Slow”
“Broken”
“The Child Inside”
“Soft Touch/Raw Nerve”
“Should Be Higher”
“Alone”
“Soothe My Soul”
“Goodbye”
“Long Time Lie” (deluxe edition only)
“Happens All the Time” (deluxe edition only)
“Always” (deluxe edition only)
“All That's Mine” (deluxe edition only)

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I tend to avoid the "leaks"...

I guess I'm still "old school", waiting for the release date like a kid for Christmas. biggrin

I ordered the deluxe edition for my sister.

They announced their US tour dates...

I'm also trying to get really good seats for her birthday.
She absolutely LOVES them.

Album and bonus tracks are great, as usual (IMO). While I'm a bit biased (fan of 29 years), I don't think DM has ever released a bad album. There are some albums that are growers (Exciter is much better than many fans give it), but I've never met a DM album I didn't end up enjoying. I'm a rare fan that prefers Sounds of the Universe to Playing The Angel. SOTU just had a bit more positivity to it -- you could tell Martin was in a better place in his life (having gotten sober). There are similarities to the three Hillier-produced albums, but they definitely have their differences too. Delta Machine is the most electronic of the three. There are parts that sound like the heavy, gritty synth vibe from Ultra combined with the intimate, IDM sound of Exciter. Thematically (and somewhat musically) I now understand Martin's comparison to Violator and SOFAD.

Regardless of anything good they release now, it's inevitable that bitter, pre-1995 fans are going to continue with their incessant pleas to bring Alan Wilder back or have him produce. I like Alan. I like Recoil. But I also feel like he didn't break any new ground with his last two albums (they both sounded just like Unsound Methods). And Alan is in the past for DM. They've moved on. Just wish some of the fans would too.

"little universe" sounds like a thom yorke/atoms for peace tune.

well, done by depeche mode, fcuz lol

but damn, that's a good one and it sounds unlike anything they

ever did before. that's an accomplishment if you've been going

strong for so many years.

i like this album a lot. i've already grown more fond of this than

i ever did on "sounds of the universe"

the b-side "all that's mine" really should have been on the album.

man that's a good track. the b-sides are even darker than all the

album tracks. and that's a very good thing with depeche mode.

"Heaven" is a great lead single, and I love the vid. Frankly, this is an album chock full of soon-to-be-classics.

totally agree i acutally like the Live in studio version even more, they sound amazing on this record, great grooves on this record, definite songs for the stage on this album, HEAVEN i agree is a great lead and possibly one of their top 5 best songs
