But I gotta admit
Seen Lonnie Jordan's War live a few years back and they brought the house down.
Good show | |

I went to Lonnie Jordan's WAR show several years ago and they played well, but it was like watching a cover band perform.Nothing beats the real thing! I think it's silly and ridiculous that all the original members can't reunite and tour together.I lost alot of respect for Lonnie.

I love WAR... Can somebody give me the full story on this?
Why did they break up?
Is it something similiar to what the Temptations did when they couldnt get it together they formed two groups?

I think Lonnie & Jerry Goldstein own the name War
Som'n like what that chick (can't think of her name now) with Klymaxx [Edited 3/15/13 18:20pm]

More like what P did with The Time and The Family. Goldstein owns the name but Lonnie sold the other guys out and sided with Goldstein because he always wanted to replace Howard Scott as the frontman.

The sad thing is...this same thing is going on with many other R&B bands. The lead singer of the Stylistics does shows with three other guys who never a part of the original group.Meanwhile, the other original members are touring with a "new" lead singer. This means that there are two different groups on the road, billing themselves as the Stylistics it's ridiculous.
This is also happening with the Mary Jane Girls.

I heard about the Mary Jane Girls thing. With Val Young as the lead singer.

Still sounds more like The Temptations situation to me, with one original member basically running a cover band. Prince doesn't have alternate versions of The Time or The Family on tour. I must be missing something. Can you explain a bit more? "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

it is sad but its happend alot all over when you dont have rights to a "NAME". not many have rights to a name of their band, especially back then, especially singing groups with alot of members where they were MANAGED. This was one of the many reasons Jon Bon Jovi fired the manager Doc Mcgee back in 1990, they were at their peak with money etc...but ownership was the issue, Jon fired him and took over the business, best move ever made. Now many have not had their fortune, many 80's groups that existed and had a hit or two, but had no rights lead singers have left and even many members and the group goes on because the NAME is more known than the members that is what it boils down too. Take Freestyle Girl Group The Cover Girls, they now tour with no original members. The original now have started to tour again, so you have two out there competeting almost as cover bands, the same with the Mary Jane girls etc... I was speaking only about the name situation. They have to use the name Lowrider Band like Fdeluxe and The Original 7even. Other than that it is similar to the Tempts and other groups.
At least with Prince he can say he actually did most of the songs for those groups at the time which isn't the case with Goldstein. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I still think things like this should not be allowed. Hopefully some laws/regulations are put in to place in the future [Edited 3/17/13 20:35pm]

Really sad situation. I hope it gets resolved.

Not about alternative bands but about the use of the names "The Time" and "The Family". I think that the O7 tell about it on the bonus dvd of their Condensate album. Morris seems to become quite furious about te situation during the interview and Jesse somewhat calms him down?... That's what I've read about it here on the org. St. Paul Peterson has notified about the Family's name issue online as well (either on their official site, blog, facebook, podcast or twitter, etc), about St. Paul who wanted to visit Paisley Park for discussing the matter.

If the Lowrider Band ever comes to my town,I'm gonna support them and go to the show. This is the "real" War.I won't go see Lonnie Jordan and his fake War band.He should be ashamed of himself....going out there with a bunch of random musicians, billing themselves as War it's really shameful
