Local band that almost made it ...

Ok . so around me - there have been only a few bands that made it big . There was "LIVE" , which is probably the biggest .

There was a band called "KIX"which ... i never got into ...

Another one got a record contract , but was more "alternative" or "new wave" that I never really got into either called "Ocean Blue" .

As I was growing up - the closest live band that I would go check out was the "sharks" .

They grew in popularity ... and were a rock band ... i would say ...

They had a MTV "basement tape" that they won - and they went on to get a contract for a small EP album by a major label. The story that I have heard a few times - the guy who produced this album came out with a song to get airplay that essentially sounded so "watered down" from what the SHARKS had been about .... that it fizzled .... the one big shot .... etc . gone .

They remained a local band for years . Eventually , the "backup singer" broke off and did his own thing .... recently the band was called the LUV GODS and I went to see them . To my astonishment - they have alot of YOUTUBE postings and .... well ... it brought back alot of memories ...

Here is the song that kinda gave them the MTV basement tapes win :

i cant say i was a groupie ... but if they came around once a month - i would see them once every 6 months ...

after viewing them on youtube - it really does take me back ...

made me look up the group "the ocean blue" too ... i knew the one guy in that group but .... i always found them to be so boring (the songs kinda just linger on and on .... )
