John Grant - Pale Green Ghosts Anyone had a chance to listen to this yet? I had a love/hate affair with his debut "Queen Of Denmark" but felt for sure his next outing would hit it out of the park. I think indeed it has but I really wasn't expecting such a drastic change in sound and style. I'm not sure the song order flows quite right but the first three tracks are killer.

Yes, I have it and it's good. I'll have to confess that I knew nothing of Grant prior to last week, though. What caught my attention was that it was produced by Biggi Veira of GusGus (love their sound). It took some getting used to Grant's lyrics (certainly not conventional), but I'm enjoying it. The guy's pretty blunt -- doesn't hold anything back. The strange combination of Veira's music and Grant's unorthodox lyrics/baritone delivery works really well. Having sampled a bit of his QofD album and his work with the Czars, I'm not sure how much of his earlier work I'd actually venture to listen to (not my taste -- but oddly enough, most of his work is on one of my favorite band's--Cocteau Twins [Simon Raymonde and Robin Guthrie]--label, Bella Union). Nonetheless, PGG is definitely worth a listen. | |

Thanks for the response. I don't know much about Biggi Veira or GusGus but did note the involvement when I saw Grant's drastic style change here and considering how much I like this I will probably check them out.
Yes, Grant's lyrics are very blunt, unconventional and confessional. A gay, male Joni Mitchell, perhaps?
