Weather Report - Live In Tokyo (1972)

I'd like to recommend this live recording to fans of jazz fusion on this board. This double LP was originally released only in Japan and I discovered it just recently (despite having listened to this band half of my life). Large chunks of the great "I Sing The Body Electric" LP were pulled from this performance. It's here in its entirety.

It has to be one of the best jazz fusion releases of all time. Yeah, it's quite abstract and noisy. No "Birdland" type of stuff on this one.

Bookmark it and listen to it when you have the time. smile

Great, thanks!!!

I wonder why it always takes so long for this stuff to be released here in its entirety...I mean, ' I Sing The Body Eectric' is what, 40 years old now?

With this one I suppose there's quite a lot of overlap with the second WR album.

I suppose there could be some licensing issues too? The Japanese have always had their "exclusively for Japanese markets" releases.

Maybe it just has to do with the labels not really caring about jazz stuff so much anymore to justify hassle (What are they going to sell? A few thousand copies at max?).

Yeah, I've missed a number of those exclusive Japanese releases, especially since many are only available for a limited time...

..and you're right, labels here in the US probably couldn't be bothered for a lot of this stuff....
