I'm surprised at this point that people are still trying to fight whether an artist fits the title. I'm just happy TVone is bringing light to these artists. No other network would have these artists on their radars. As far as the other network showing Behind The Music, I've never been overly impressed with the exception of a couple of episodes because they generally showed artists i either weren't interested in or had no knowledge about. They are doing okay with Unsung. We gripe about the show in one instance but if we didn't have it we would still gripe about it. I also believe it's important for the younger generation to get a history lesson on how these artists got their start and how they evolved. Don't laugh at my funk

I am. Believe it or not I just watched the part where they were addressing the gay rumors and the showed all the forums addressing whether he was gay and I saw Prince.org
I knew he was close friends with Eddie Murphy and Sugar Ray but did not know he was close friends with Barry Bonds. Don't laugh at my funk

This was an okay episode. This season of Unsung gets a C- grade from me.
Seems like JG always had to struggle with his music career from day one. I'm sure there is more to this story that will never be told that may explain all that. He should have been just as big as, Luther, Teddy, Gerald, Keith, R. Kelly, etc.
The fact that he didn't like "Boys To Men" was a surprise. I like his approach to singing the song!
"Provocative" was a much better album than "Johnny Gill" Motown dropped the ball or didn't care. Go back and listen to it! Check it out if you haven't.
This track from the "Mo Money" soundtrack is brilliant! Let's Just Runaway

Haven't seen the Unsung episode yet, but I did see Johnny Gill's interview on "OMG Insider" earlier this evening. Johnny addressed the Eddie Murphy/gay rumors. To me, the most surprising part of that TV interview was the revelation he's worth $10 Million. For years I kept hearing gossip that he is flat-broke. Hey...

Frank Ocean shall remain the only brave one to admit sexuality, even though his admission was a bit tepid and safe. Of course I am speaking of African-American male admisssions. Johnny Gill, who does he think he is fooling. Total church boy queen. He can deny it and say he is 153% heterosexual all he wants, but he cannot live down what happened with Bobby Brown at a New Edition rehearsal, nor his bussy bumping with Tyson, Hall, Murphy and Bonds. Tevin Campbell has never admitted it, nor has Freddie Jackson, nor even the late ones like Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Buddy Miles, Billy Preston or Eddie Kendricks. The thing that these people seem to forget is that there are other people in the entertainment arts community that know them and their activities. The list goes on and on: Will Smith, Narada Michael Walden, Quincy Jones, Ray Parker, Jr., Usher Raymond, Sean Combs, Busta Rhymes, Mason Betha, Bow Wow, Soulja Boy, Roscoe Dash, Lil Wayne, Baby, Drake Graham, Keith Washington, Dallas Austin, not to even mention the countless gospel singers and musicians. Who one has sex with is perhaps no ones business, but to lie about your sexuality is a crock of of horseshit. Music Royalty in Motion

I pulled out "Provocative" this morning. I usually listen to it a few times a year to reminisce on my youth. I don't think it's better than his self-titled album, but it is a good album. I think the problem lies with the songs Jam and Lewis did for the album. It's as if they wanted to continue off of the success of "Rub You The Right Way" and "My My My" and it shouldn't have been done that way. A lot of the production on the album was too noisy and busy (which was Jam and Lewis' them at that time). The song "A Cute Sweet Love Addiction" and "Where No Other Man Has Gone Before" should have been singles instead of the horrible "I Got You." Also "Quiet Time To Play" should have been a MASSIVE R&B radio hit. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Totally agree. Was it ever a single? Another nice joint on there was "Lady Dujour".
I just saw his episode. Considering his age, I found his ep to be a little premature. I think JG should be around for awhile. That new/old song now "In The Mood" was good. That should have done better on Adult Contemporary R&B radio.

I don't think "Lady Dujour" was a single. I know that "Giving My All To You was serviced to radio. The smooth jazz station here in Dallas played the instrumental as part of their regular format. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Wonder why his good friend Janet Jackson didn't speak on him on "Unsung"?They we're very close. They hung out & spoke on the phone the whole time Janet did "Nutty Professor 2" with Eddie.

I actually think they took the right approach to the album. My My My was a LA/Face production. I think Jam and Lewis tried to bring a fresh different vibe rather than locking Johnny into a My My My guy. I loved the title track. I thought it was wild, freaky and should have been a single. I liked The Floor which i thought was a good single choice. I agree Motown dropped the ball putting I Got You out as a second single. To me other single choices should have been either Where NO Man Has Gone Before, Long Way From Home, and Mastersuite. I didn't care for A Cute Sweet Love Addiction. That was probably the worst song on the album for me with the rehashed Tyrone Davis sample and that's saying a lot considering I Got You being a little weak. I have his self titled album and Provocative on cassette. I just converted the self titled album to MP3. I gonna do Provocative tomorrow. All in all Motown seemed to be a mess when they released Provocative and just totally fu%&**d an otherwise good album. [Edited 3/28/13 17:31pm] Don't laugh at my funk
