Cookie Jar - Funkadelic, Fuzzy Haskins, Parlet or Prince?

[???????]Prince - Cookie Jar[????????]

One of the most fascinating & quirkiest musical moments that came out of the P-Funk crew IMO. Fuzzy put his foot down when he wrote/composed this little oddity, and I would love love loooooove to read about how it was conceived.

Which version do you prefer?

I guess I'm partial to Parlet's version, probably because it's the first time I heard it, and I played that "Pleasure Principle" album TO DEATH when it first came out. I actually didn't get around to hearing Fuzzy's version of it until just a few years ago. I appreciate his version, well, because he wrote the damned song, and I expect that he performs it the way it was meant to be performed.

Then, aside from Parlet, I don't ever recall hearing Funkadelic (proper) performing the song. Although, if I had heard them perform it before, it just doesn't stick out in my mind. Nevertheless, hearing Funkadelic's YouTube clip posted here doesn't ring a bell.

Next, I really don't ever recall having heard Prince perform it at any time. Although I will admit, as much as I love Prince, I'm not so obsessed as to keep up with every single song he's ever produced.

So I guess my favorite version of "Cookie Jar" goes to Parlet, by default.

The whole Sugar Shack gig was legendary, I suggest you track it down. It baffles my mind how it didn't get released officially. Among the stuff I heard live from Funkadelic, this is my favorite.

As for Prince, he recorded it in 1988 during a time where he relished in experimenting in the studio, and it showed in his rendition. Plus, he re-worked the lyrical theme to fit his spiritual stance at the time, something totally opposite of the initial song lol
