The Jacksons "Show You the Way to Go" and more... Ever since I saw the Jackson in concert last tuesday, I can't get this song out of my head:
Unfortunately I didn't record it, but here are some of my videos from the show in Munich. Turnout was quite bad, but the show was quite good. I had fun. I loved the setlist, a shame though that Jermaine didn't do his solo section.

"Show You the Way to Go" is my favorite song that Michael (or any Jackson) ever sang. It's a masterpiece. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Always loved this track. I balled my eyes out when they played it on the radio after MJ had died. It's one of his most earnest vocals and a brilliant song. "Get up off that grey line"

Love this song and its great you went! But jermaine did a solo set when he came here, for opening night, so that's odd. He had done lets get serious, do what you do and maybe it was dynamite I forgot. I wanted him to do don't take it personal, one of his best ever!

^^Yeah, I know... he also did it at some other european shows, but unfortunately the turn out in Munich was so bad, it was a wonder that they did the concert at all, so I guess they wanted to cut their losses and keep the show as short as possible. They did play 90 minutes.

that really makes me feel bad for them . Alot of their shows were cancelled this year due to low ticket sales

^^Yes. It's a shame. It's not the same as with Michael (of course not), but the show is good! Great songs and despite them not being on a stage for over 20 years they are good. But what can you do, when even MJ fans boycott them or are not interested.

It doesn't take away from the music or talent. I was hesitant too at first but didn't want to miss out and I have no regrets going at all

Yeah. Me too. It's their loss though.
I'd rather see his brothers than CDS or some other tribute show.

Yeah I almost felt influenced by all the shade thrown on them but glad I decided to do it in the end. It was a month before the summer scandal too, so at the time I felt my anger going away. I would even put it in my top 3 best shows attended in person.

All the shade thrown at them, is mostly assumptions. Everybody judging from the outside. But no one knows what is really going on in that family. How they really think and what they really feel. Do they have good intentions or bad intentions. They are doing basically the same that has been done to Michael over the years. Always seeing the bad side in everything they do, always assuming the worst.

I agree, cause at the end of the day, it's none of our business and we don't know the bigger picture in that family, even if they have done questionable things. I also agree that performing their older material is better. Also, I don't understand why fans were pissed they did some of his music at the show. No one else could have done it like his own blood while they're still here, and it was so energizing and emotional all at once. Seeing them bring can't let her get away back to life was great. Exactly.
Yeah. The outrage over that is ridiculous. I mean, they did WBSS, RWY and DSTYGE already on the Victory and Triumph tours and I wanna be where you are on the Motown tours. So they do have a connection to those songs, as they performed them countless times already. Gone to soon is clearly a tribute to Michael and ICLHGA is used to introduce the band and since it is not a signature MJ song and a rather obscure choice, it's certainly not used to "exploit" Michael. And really when it comes to the setlist, this one is so much better than the one of the Victory tour. [Edited 3/10/13 17:59pm]

Well, I can see that you can just be a fan of Michael as a person, but when it comes to the music, if you like Michael, you also like the Jackson 5/Jacksons stuff and should have at least a soft spot for the brothers.

Even as a person, how can you despise the other family, but treat Mike like he's Jesus! Most of them have dine questionable things in their life. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Well, I guess that depends on what you like of or in Michael.
But true, I don't quite get the "despising" thing, which some people clearly do, either. But then again, that goes back to what people think to know about the brothers and family and what they supposedly did. I don't know though, how you can condemn someone without 100% proof on whether they really did what you think they did. [Edited 3/10/13 18:06pm]

As a huge music lover, my mj collection felt naked without buying j5 and Jacksons albums so I bought then years ago as soon as I got the chance, and it would be a nice change from the epic years at times, hearing mj sing soulfully in a different light I also was pleasantly surprised to hear songs like time waits for no one and push me away in the setlist and was very emotional cause they nailed them and I knew I would never see these classics performed again. Redoing Billie jean, beat it and thriller would have been exploitation but neither were there.

It's not shade. IMO criticism is deserved. It's pretty much a given there is now no gravy train for the Jackson brothers. They're being forced to work, They're not touring for the love of it. As a rule, The Jacksons are bone idle. Not saying this applies to all the brothers, but definately the majority.
It's telling there is no album to back up this tour. Lazy. Lazy. Lazy.
Much love & thanks for the music back in the day though.

truth. if they were interested in touring or keeping the music alive for the love of it, they would have been doing this all along. i love this song as much as anyone, but mj is what made this song and there's no getting around that.

Teddy Riley produced a cover for Men Of Vizion in 1997 of the song, with that typical 90s r&b sound...

It was impossible for them to tour with Mike still around. Look what happened to 2300 Jackson Street when Jermaine was still relevant.
It would have been looked upon as a joke, the Jacksons making albums and touring without MJ. It would be like the Rolling Stones touring without Mick while he was still dropping albums. It can;t be done. PRINCE: Always and Forever

the reality is that they could have did one better, based on the fact Marlon went double platinum in 1987, the fact Jermaine went stone platinum in 1989, the fact Randy had unleashed a very successful debut w/his group "Randy and the Gypsies", and his single "Perpetrators" rose to the very top of the rotation on urban stations around the country, they could have conducted solo tours nationally, not to the degree Michael did w/his global Bad Tour, but a tour nonetheless
anytime you sold double platinum sales back during the golden age, back then, that ensured a tour of some sort, and since Marlon supplanted Michael from the top of the r&b charts with his single "Don't Go" as that single moved past "Bad", that was monumental,
but as 1989 hit, when 2300 Jackson Street was receiving support, the album was yanked from the shelves, and the song was yanked from the airwaves
and by 1991, all the brother's careers were sabotaged, as Clive Davis alluded too a couple of weeks ago, now the genie is out of the bottle....
as we speak, music fans across the globe are shocked at the level of stage presence and quality entertainment the brothers provide, and they could have been doing so all along
even MJ fans of the past 23 years have alluded to the fact they never expected this.....
but the unfortunate story to this tale, we'll never know what they could have didd, or I should say, they could have been doing it waay longer that what they actually did......

Marlon's album never went double platinum. I think the single was gold though.
An album that scrapes the bottom of the Billoard top 200 (175) and isn't even a top ten black album (22) gets sales no where near 2,000,000. The single Don't Go however was number 2, only behind his brother's Bad and I think it went Gold with sales of 500,000. PRINCE: Always and Forever

that album definitely went double platinum, it was already certified gold within months of the album's release, Don't go went #1 ......oh, I have proof......always gotta have the proof
this is very similar when I stated on another forum that BAD sold 16 million copies worldwide within 2 months of its release, most MJ fans told me I was trippin, and they said it because they said it was impossible to outsell THRILLER, even thought it was on pace initially to do so by a mile before sales stalled.........but then someone who knew the reality backed that assertion with actual sales figures from reliable sources....
I used to keep up w/album sales like there was no tomorrow...
but before I forget, here's proof....evidence
notice what Marlon says about R&R

Radio airplay is different from sales. Bllboards is sales, airplay is just that, airplay.
It's impossible for an album to go double platinum, let alone platinum if stales at #175 on the billboard charts.
That means 174 albums were better sellers than "Baby Tonight." It only stayed on the Billboard 200 for a few weeks than it was off. It wasn't high charting on the R& side either. PRINCE: Always and Forever

this is where the word on the street, or by the people are the true indicator, as to who was actually buying who's album....
because where I live, anytime a album came out by any members of the Jackson family in terms of the original act, there was great support and anticipation for it
because during those years, before the pop ascension destroyed the very fabric of the industry, the r&b category held more credence, than even billboard in terms of the ability for the r&b audience to establshed a foundation for an artist who's associate with that experience...
what's considered r&b then wouldn't be considered r&b now or I should say out of respect, what's considered r&b now wouldn't be considered r&b then....
the r&b category is all but null and void, it has been reduced to a demographic
it was strong as a horse back in the day, but not anymore....because the genre has lost its adult following....see, adults bought the records back in the day as much as the teenagers did and often, the adults were buying the records for the kids...their representation is long gone
When Don't Go went #1, people were like they wanted to see what they were missing and was astounded Marlon was able to supplant the Bad single by Michael....I was thrown off guard but gave him props all the same....
see, the people made it #1
and during those days, airplay reacted to the success of sales.....that's how marlon eventually received 100% airplay.....that never would have happened if the sales weren't there
same thing with the video for the song "Don't Go", that video reached #1 on Video Soul before BET started tanking as early as the late 80s, and that video supplanted the Bad video from the top of the rotation.....
and that wasnt no fluke, as Marlon was a great talent in his own right, as he used to work with Michael developing the dance routines for the brothers, especially for the Triumph Tour....
with all that said, it's great to see the brothers getting their shine, because they were robbed of it over 20 years ago......and they will always give the highest praise to their brother Michael....
