Lil Kim says Diddy made her miss out on recording "The Thong Song"

http://www.sohh.com/2013/03/lil_kim_says_diddys_advice_cost_her_a_hu.html?utm_source=news&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=featured-box

According to the Queen Bee, ex-Def Jam executive Lyor Cohenreached out to Kim for an opportunity to hop on Sisqo's infectious hit in the early 2000's.

"A long time ago, when I was with Puffy -- 'cause Puffy managed me, but he also was basically the label," she started, before reminiscing, "Puffy was my everything -- everybody know that. He did mostly everything for me. But a long time ago [record executive] Lyor [Cohen], and I love Lyor; he was always somebody I looked up to. [He] used to run Def Jam and he also came to my label Atlantic later on so that's how we got closer. "But before, when [Lyor] was at Def Jam, he called me to be on the Sisqo 'Thong Song' and at that time I was trying to be a business woman, but I was a baby," Kim continued. "I didn't know what I was doing, so I was listening to whoever was around me that I looked up to. Puffy was giving me all the advice in the world." (MTV)

Kim said some hardball advice from former manager Diddy led to missing out on the joint record.

At the time, Lil Kim was trying to boost her Junior M.A.F.I.A. pal Lil' Cease, and her determination to have his back in another set of negotiations eventually led to the missed opportunity. "So I wanted Redman and Method Man to be on Cease's next single because he had done a record with them and I needed clearance for them and [Lyor] kept telling me 'no,' " she explained. "I'm like, 'Cease needs this right now.' ... And he was like, 'But I want you to be on this single that I have with Sisqo coming out.' The 'Thong Song' wasn't out yet, and I was like, 'OK, I'll do it, [if you give me clearance' [for Cease's song]. He was like, 'No.' " According to Lil' Kim, it was Diddy who suggested she play hardball with the record exec in order for both parties to get what they wanted. Kim took the advice but, in the end, Cohen simply let the song come out without her. (MTV)

The "Thong Song" broke numerous records and landed the R&B singer a handful of Grammy nominations in 2000.

"Thong Song" is a song recorded by American R&B artist Sisqó. It was released in February 2000 as the second single from Sisqó's 1999 debut LP Unleash the Dragon. Thong Song garnered 4 Grammy nominations and numerous other awards as well. The song reached number 2 in the United States, his second highest-peaking song and the biggest hit in the US and major success worldwide, reaching the top 10 throughout Europe and number 1 in New Zealand. (Wikipedia)

Months later, Kim and Sis hooked up for their "How Many Licks" collaboration.

A long four years after making her big, salacious splash on Hard Core, Lil' Kim returned as a very different rapper on The Notorious K.I.M., and not necessarily for the better. For one, her close friend and collaborator the Notorious B.I.G. had been murdered during the interim. The sad passing heavily informs this glitzy yet ultimately somber album, not only the title but many of the lyrics too. Biggie had played a large role in the success of Hard Core, and his absence here is gaping. Also, the Queen Bitch invites along a host of collaborators to fill the gap left behind by her departed former executive producer. Puff Daddy fills Biggie's large shoes and unfortunately gives the album the same sort of gaudiness that had marred his recent round of releases on Bad Boy Records, namely his own Forever and Mase's Double Up. As on those albums, nearly every track on Notorious K.I.M. is helmed by a different producer, many feature a guest, and most make some sort of pop-crossover concession. Sometimes the pop-rap tactics pay off, particularly on "Custom Made (Give It to You)," where the orgasmic moans of Lil' Louis' house classic "French Kiss" are looped ad infinitum to impressive effect, and on "How Many Licks?," where Sisqó trades off one come-on after another with Kim. Lil’ Kim sues lawyer for $1 million over bad licensing agreements

The rapper filed suit against Sunny Barkats and his partner Andrew Ro, who allegedly tricked her into signing over nearly half of her earnings from branding and licensing transactions.

Lil' Kim sued Sunny Barkats and Andrew Ro over a bad licensing deal she alleges she was tricked in to signing.

Lil’ Kim filed a $1 million lawsuit against a lawyer and businessman who she claims duped her into signing a series of bad licensing agreements.

The 38-year-old former rapper says Sunny Barkats bamboozled her into entering transactions that gave himself and his partner, Andrew Ro, a 44% stake in a corporation formed to license her brand names. Lil’ Kim claims that she eventually wised up to the shady deals in December 2012, but Barkats refused to rescind them.

Lil' Kim Camp Blasts Blog For Implying Her Face Is 'Distorted'

'We at Team Lil' Kim are not taking this lying down,' rep says about a gossip item commenting on the rapper's looks.

Lil' Kim is not to be trifled with. After Kim appeared on Wednesday's"Rapfix Live," where she introduced her new artist, Tiffany Foxx, the rapper's rep lashed out at gossip blog MediaTakeOut for an unflattering item about Kim's looks.

The post, based on a photo snapped of Kim as she was leaving the "Rapfix" set, was a piece of fiction according to her rep, C.J. Carter.

"We would like to inform fans, the media, and the general public that this is nothing more than the blog site doing its best to conjure up much needed publicity and what better way to do so, than to take an American music icon and create a fictitious platform in which to disrespect and humiliate," read a statement sent by Carter to E! Online about the item, which appeared to have been amended since its original posting. As of Friday morning (March 8) there was no longer a photo accompanying the piece, whose headline read, "Rapper Lil' Kim shows off her new look ... she put on some weight ... and it looks GOOD ON HER!!!" MediaTakeOut is known for posting salacious, often un-or anonymously-sourced items about hip-hop, sports and R&B stars.

Carter slammed the Kim story, which he said, "implied that Grammy Award winning hiphopstress Lil' Kim was physically distorted."

The furor came after a number of recent stories commenting on how different Kim has looked in recent public appearances. "We at Team Lil' Kim are not taking this lying down and are taking this matter very seriously," Carter said.

Carter went on to refer to the implications in the TakeOut story as, "fictitious, malicious and despicable," but offered no indication of what, if any action Team Lil' Kim plans to take in the wake of the slight.

A spokesperson for MediaTakeOut could not be reached for comment at press time.

She don't look too awful in the last pic with the mic. Would've been a more interesting song/video, imo. Not the early Kim I'll always love and cherish, but still a walking, breathing reminder of strength and vulgarity. love

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

I liked the Thong Song for about 15 minutes then that

guilty pleasure went and sailed. As for Lil Kim it's sad

how she's screwed her face up. She was decent looking

as she was. Now she looks scary.

Two chicks with more surgeries than the Jackson Family addded together, maybe the two of them will fight it out and kill each other off and IQs will start to rise
