Earlier groups with the same name of a later group Poison: 1970's funk band You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

There's been several acts called 'The Family' or 'Family'.
This one is a R&B group that released an album in 1977. Tyrone Brunson was a member. He later released some popular R&B singles in the 1980's like The Smurf and Sticky Situation. Rosetta Stone
First band formed in Northern Ireland in the 70s with Bay City Rollers guitarist Ian Mitchell.
Second band formed in England in the late 80s.
Obviously, I preferred the second band.

I know, but with only 1 out of 8 guys in the current band who had also been in the classic lineup it sure does seem like two totally different groups!

Does this count? | |

^^The same group with different members (ie. The Platters, The Temptations) or different names is not a different group. So Parliament and Guns & Roses don't count. Acts with or without a "The" at the front can count though (ie. Time/The Time). How about if there's an "s" at the end of the band's name with different members? Like this:
