Whats The Stroy Behind The Unreleased Duet Between D'Angelo & L-Boogie which was supposed 2 be in "Voodoo"??

I remember reading alot of newsletter about L-Boogie "returning" the favor 2 D by working with him on the "Voodoo" project and word on the street said there was a "duet" but it got shelved. What happend?? That would be off the chain if they released it cuz "Nothing Really Matters" is the shit nod

I love Nothing really matters.
It reminds me a whole lot of Temptations Soulmate.
I read that the duet was supposed 2 B Feel like makin´love.I guess he decided 2 do that on his own.
By the way that´s 1 of my all time favourite songs.
This was the song I choose 2 play when I auditioned 2 a
musicschool some years ago.
I love Roberta Flacks version, but how about Angela Bofill & Ricardo Marrero´s latin version of that.
aaaw that gives me the goosebumps
Another knock-U-off-your-feet version was when I saw
D'angelo live in Stockholm.
He played a completely different version of this song.
Only the words was the same.Questlove was on drums &
the percussion guy hit the 2 & 4 on a linn clap.
sooo funky!!!

Essence

It was given as the reason for the lengthy holdup over Voodoo, eventually I guess he gave up hope of getting Lauryn to return the favour be it personal or contractual and put it out without her...

Naah "It Wasn't Feels Like Makin' Love" Manki,,,I read the title long time ago but I can't remember it. Beside, I think I heard him say that he don't want her 2 do anything musicaly forced not 2 mention that he don't want her 2 be involved with his so called "dirty" music since her style is Stevie Wonderish while his style carrys the edgy dark shit.

I read it was "Feel Like Makin'Love" as well. I can't remember where I heard it but that was the song she was supposed to be on.

d'angelo talks about his collaboration with lauren in the interview between him and ?uest in the d'bonics section on the www.okayplayer.com/dangelo site.
besides that, also check out the 'voodoo' cd booklet. in the background of the forelast page of the booklet you see ".. appears courtesy of Ruffhouse/Columbia Records". now, who can that be? yes sir, it's her! i believe their duet was supposed to be 'feel like makin' love'. in the end d' just didn't use her vocals.

I've been wondering about this thing far too looong now and what confuses me mo' is why did her put her name in the liner notes if she wasn't even there??

I just found out that "That's The Time I Feel Like Making Love" is the title.

And what does he talk about messing with dirty music?? I know that his music have this funk shit but what does that have to do with "Feels Like Makin Love" 2 me thats clean lol

well, she's not actually in the liner notes. the background just shows a draft of the liner notes. probably as a graphic decoration. as you can see, lauren is NOT mentioned in the final liner notes.

I just found out that "That's The Time I Feel Like Making Love" is the title.

i hope you realise that 'that's the time i feel like making love' is 'feel like makin' love' from the 'voodoo' album.
and you said you thought lauren and d' were working on a different song than 'feel like makin' love'. well, i didn't agree at first, but i do now though.
in the interview for vibe magazine ?uest and d' talk about two songs lauren and d' were working on for the 'voodoo' album. first they were working on a new song (no title is mentioned). then the interview mentions that the hill camp was waiting for d's call about lauren's involvement on the 'feel like makin' love' track (roberta flack cover). this track was produced solely by d'angelo with only pino assisting on bass and ?uest on drums according to the 'voodoo' liner notes. well, in ?uest's review of the 'voodoo' album (see www.theroots.com), which was written before 'voodoo' was finished, he discusses a duet between lauren and d'. he says the following: "..and the lauren song isn't quite done yet. (...) jaydee did the lauren track. and it has an al green feel to it mixed with a little 'got til 'it's gone' (jaydee did that too)." this proves that lauren and d' were initially working on a different song than 'feel like makin' love'.

And what does he talk about messing with dirty music?? I know that his music have this funk shit but what does that have to do with "Feels Like Makin Love" 2 me thats clean lol

well, all i can say is, listen to 'brown sugar' and then listen to 'voodoo'. there's obviously a difference in production. i mean, where bob power recorded and mixed most of the 'brown sugar' album, d' and russell elevado did this for 'voodoo'. and 'voodoo' just sounds a bit more raw and live to me. i, too, think that 'feel like makin' love' isn't the best example for this rawness or dirty sound, but for instance 'playa playa' and 'chicken grease' are. just think about it.
and as d' says, it's a concept he will further explore. so, perhaps in the near future, with a new release, it will become more clear to you.

i should check out ?uest's 'voodoo' review if i were you. there is some cool shit in there. like i said, he wrote it before the 'voodoo' master copy was finished. so, a couple of things that ?uest thought were gonna end up on the album, eventually didn't. nice to know. also, he talks about the 'bitch' song. how it didn't make the 'set it off' soundtrack.

i'll stop now.

D'Angelo and Lauryn were supposed to duet on the 1974 Roberta Flack classic "Feel Like Makin Love".

Speaking of unreleased Lauryn Hill collaborations...in 1998,when Carlos Santana was working on his 'Supernatural' album,Lauryn and Carlos collaborated on a remake of The Beatles "And I Love Her".It didn't appear on the album.
