Did he mention Gil Scott-Heron, the first artist he signed on Arista?
Yes, he wrote at length about Gil Scott. I haven't yet bought it , but Davis tells his life story with meticulous detail. It's 600 plus pages long.

Does anyone know if Clive Davis dares to mention the late, great Phyllis Hyman? He probably didn't feel she was "big enough", but just wondering...
.
I saw an interview with her, before she died. Forgot the show, I'm sorry, but I remembered she said that the blues is where it's at for her, and she refused to sell out to mainstream music. She used to sing at the Blue Note in NYC. |

Maybe this will help to shatter the myth that sexuality is either straight or gay.
Far too many people think male bisexuality is a speedbump on the way to complete ghey.
I've known other bi males who now are exclusively with women.
Exactly.
(IMHO) Some straight and gay folks appear very threatened by bisexuality. It has to be an either/or propositions and if you don't choose one over they other than you are suspect. Some people like people, they don't give a damn which sex they are; I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand. As I say, if you are happyI'm for you...fuck and love on. Cheers
As far as Mr. Davis... I thought this was already known. Old news. |

I don't get why anyone would be threatened by bisexuality, but I know the folk are out there.
It definitely does not have to be an either/or. I believe that folk can be a myriad of things.
That being a truth, some folk, do SCREAM of either or tho. And while it may make it tougher for those who are bi (especially men, hi Dan, due to societal rules of masculinity), for lots and lots and LOTSSSSSSSSSSSS of dudes, claiming bisexuality IS a way to ease their way to their, um...final desination.

I really don't think this cover suggest any sexual connotation. If this were two women in the exact same pose, or much worse, people wouldn't question or think twice about it.
But the picture is trying to project strong macho masculine image. Unfortunately, it also has an undercurrent gay fierceness that we haven't seen since the likes of Top Gun.
Jokes aside, I think strong images of "masculine" and some what sexual poses (One in a dominate role, while the other the submissive role) is why some may think of sexual connotation, no?

Here is Kelly Clarkston's response regarding what Clive wrote about her in his book:
February 19, 2013Hey y'all,
So I just heard Clive Davis is releasing a memoir and spreading false information about me and my music. I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans. It feels like a violation. Growing up is awesome because you learn you don't have to cower to anyone - even Clive Davis.
First, he says I burst into "hysterical sobbing" in his office when he demanded Since You Been Gone be on my album. Not true at all. His stories and songs are mixed up. I did want more guitars added to the original demo and Clive did not. Max, Luke and I still fought for the bigger sound and we prevailed and I couldn't be more proud of the life of that song. I resent him dampening that song in any way.
But, yes, I did cry in his office once. I cried after I played him a song I had written about my life called "Because Of You." I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that I was a "sh*tty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me." He continued on about how the song didn't rhyme and how I should just shut up and sing. This was devastating coming from a man who I, as a young girl, considered a musical hero and was so honored to work with. But I continued to fight for the song and the label relented. And it became a worldwide hit. He didn't include that in the book.
He also goes on to say My December wasn't successful because I co-penned the album and it didn't have "pop hits". Well, first let me say, I've co-penned many of my "pop hits." Secondly, My December went platinum (It sold 20,000 less than All I Ever Wanted which followed My December.) Hardly a huge failure. Never Again, the ONLY single they released in the US from that record was a Top 10 hit. I am very proud of that and I have my fans to thank. But, again, what's most interesting about his story is what he leaves out: He doesn't mention how he stood up in front of his company at a convention and belittled me and my music and completely sabotaged the entire project. It never had a chance to reach it's full potential. My December was an album I needed to make for myself for many reasons and the fact that I was so completely disregarded and disrespected was so disheartening, there really aren't words to explain….
Anyway, I love my job. I love my music. I love my fans. I love my label and all of my professional relationships… now. And I am grateful for Clive for teaching me to know the difference.
Cheers to another amazing year! And, as always, thanks for listening!

That's true and a very good point. Just as some who identify themselves as bisexuals, use it as subterfuge.
Ultimately my point was, we should have empathy and respect the choices people make with whom they choose to love, lust after, and/or have an intimated relationship with. I don't claim to understand everything because people/life can be complex. But I respect that people aren't as hard-wire to be placed in this category or that category. Sexuality can be a fluid situation, if you ultimately make a determination your are a gay man/women fine; if realize you like both sexes fine. Some people seem to be so "cock" sure about other people sexuality. Live let live.
