"That's The Way of the World, EWF "- The Movie's Opening Scenes

...

I just love the opening of the film, with shots of Earth Wind and Fire warming up in the studio...I also noticed that while Harvey Keitel is playing the role of producer, EWF's real producer, Charles Stepney, is just over his shoulder, guiding him on the knobs....

....

You're not crazy. The melody is wonderful, and they sound good, whats not to like?

I've seen that film ONCE, and the only thing I remember was seeing Charles Stepney. I should watch it again. Its a shame how the movie ended up being about Harvey's character instead of EWF.

I like that song, too----at least after Stepney arranges the hell out of it!

I agree, and I also think it's a shame the way they misused EW&F's music in the film.Strong,well-written songs like "All About Love","Reasons","See The Light" and the amazing title track were used as instrumetal background music...with no vocals! disbelief Only two songs,"Happy Feeling" and "Shining Star",are given alot of exposure in this film.

Because this movie was a major flop that wasn't in theatres very long,I bet many people who purchased the album in 1975 didn't even know that they were buying a movie soundtrack.

How many of you bought the DVD that came out several years ago? I have yet to view the version that features commentary from the bandmembers.I bet there are some interesting details.

I remember always reading the back of my uncle's album about it being taken from a

movie but never knew or heard anything about this movie until years later. It must have

flopped big time. Even Wattstax got a little more pub than this movie.

Maurice White once joked that "this movie was yanked out of theatres in three days" lol I actually think this film might have done better if.....

***They had utillized the EW&F songs more effectively

***Certain scenes didn't go on forever lol There are alot of boring scenes in this movie where characters talk and talk and talk and talk....lol....

That's the Way of the World is a 1975 film produced and directed by Sig Shore, starring Harvey Keitel, and features the music of R&B/Funkgroup Earth, Wind and Fire (who also appear in the picture as a fictionalized version of themselves). The film depicts the music business and the life of record executives. A soundtrack by Earth, Wind and Fire released in the same year eventually became one of the famous landmark albums the group has ever made.

Coleman Buckmaster (Harvey Keitel) also known as "the Golden Ear" is a producer extraordinaire for A-Chord Records. In the midst of working slavishly to complete the debut album of "the Group" (Earth, Wind and Fire), Buckmaster is forced to put their project on the back-burner in favor of a new signing to A-Chord, "the Pages," Velour (Cynthia Bostick), Gary (Jimmy Boyd) and Franklin (Bert Parks). According to label head Carlton James (Ed Nelson), the Pages represent good, ol' fashioned, wholesome family values. According to Buckmaster, they represent everything wrong with the music business: a soulless pastiche of cheese-on-white-bread, and he wants nothing to do with them. However, due to his contract, he is forced to turn the flat song of their demo, "Joy, Joy, Joy" into a workable hit. In the meantime, he ends up in a relationship with Velour, seemingly also against his will, but he is able to use the relationship to his and the Group's advantage.
