Sheena Easton (Angela Winbush) "Fire and Rain"

I've owned this album for way over a decade now, and now, in my late 20's, I find this track tucked away at the end of the CD that I probably have only played once or twice and ignored it all this time LOL.

I dig Sheena's lower register, she sounds great, but its the production and that killer bridge that does it for me....

Written and produced by Angela Winbush. Also piano and drum programming too aswell as lovely backing vocals with Easton which are the icing on the cake. Talented lady indeed!

LA Reid and Babyface's first 3 songs, along with "Fire and Rain", are my favs.

I actually much prefer Patti Labelle's "Yo Mister", a song that reminds me of the Prince stuff on "lover in me", over"cool love" or "101". I think Iam in the minority of 1 there though LOL.

I still really dig "101" though, just not as much as "Yo Mister". All 3 of those songs sound pretty left field as far as pop music goes LOL.

I loved this entire album. Even the Jellybean track (which was a fill-in track) was good.

Definately my favorite album from her. I was hoping she would do more work with Winbush but it never happened. Interesting that although the title song did very well for her, all of the follow-up singles flopped. I do believe this album received a Gold certification, but I think she alienated some of her fanbase with this album.

The second single should have been "One Love".It's a strong, catchy uptempo jam with an infectious hook/chorus.The record company chose "Days Like This" as the second single, but it's a very mediocre song.

Another thing....although I really like the haunting,Prince-produced "101",it is not single material. It was too dark and eerie for pop radio. The sexy "Cool Love" (also produced by Prince) would have been a better choice.

Like you, I just don't understand why they chose "Days Like This" as a single. When I found out it was the 2nd single, I just was baffled. I always thought "Cool Love" would have been the 2nd single or even "One Love" (like you said).

I didn't know "No Deposit, No Return" was a single either until a few years ago.

Not too shabby

"101" is a 1989 song written by Prince (using his pseudonym Joey Coco) for Sheena Easton.[1] The song appeared on Easton's album The Lover in Me.[2]

Always liked this jam. I can hear Angela singing it, too.

I think they choose "Days Like This" for a second single because, at that time, pretty much everything LA Reid and Babyface touched was a guaranteed hit. With the success of the first single, the label probably thought they would strike oil again if they released another song produced by the duo as the second single. Personally, I love "Days Like This" and didn't quite understand why it didn't do so well. Like I stated earlier, I believe her fanbase was probably so baffled by her recording an album that was so R&B that they just weren't picking up on the singles. I do agree that while it was a fantasic song, "101" should have never been released as a single. I believe this "Fire & Rain" track probably would have gotten her some more spins at black radio but there weren't many songs on this album that were Pop-friendly. I'm glad she recorded it, though. Although I had always dug some of her songs, this particular album really brought home for me the fact that this chick really had a strong set of pipes. I still think "101" is probably the best vocal I've heard from her.
