Creedence Clearwater Revival: Run Through The Jungle The Monkees: Zor And Zam You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Hate to rain on the antiwar parade but - For What Its Worth is not about Vietnam or the protesting of it.
It's about the cops in LA enforcing curfew on the Sunset Strip. Not because people are protesting the war but because they are longhaired hippie freaks who endanger the patrons of legitmate business. Foreshadowing of the LA Punk Riots a decade later.
Hey speaking of LA punk there are several Minutemen songs about Nam: Viet Nam, The Price Of Paradise, No Parade.
Also from Illinois there is the Didjits' Plate In My Head.

And since Stills leads to Nash, don't foget CSN's "Chicago" about the 68 Convention.

The US was entering the already ongoing Vietnam war in the early 60's when Bob Dylan wrote With God on Our Side.
One can only assume the confilct must have had at lease some influence on him to write the song.

Too each his and her own memories and perspective about Vietnam. Those songs had everything to do with Vietnam. As far as the police beating the shit out of of people, they've always has beat the shit out of Black people and to be blunt not much has changed on that front.
The four branches of Nations Reserve Honor Guard and the Red Cross were a constant in Brownsville for over a decade, 24/7. About a 1/5 of the boys/men on my block end up being drafted, including a sibling and 2 cousins. Vietnam as with all our previous wars wasn't as removed as these 2 wars we are fighting now appear to be. People back then weren't purchasing car magnets talkin' about, Support the Troops; many -if they were lucky- had a Blue Star Service Flag hung in their windows. Sobering. ========================================================= [Edited 2/14/13 17:02pm]
