Not a bad line up. I hope they get Cherrelle to come also. It's about time Clarence gets recognized. I would also like to see Dick Griffey get recognized.

Look forward to SOS! Been ages since I've seen them perform. Wait a minute.... did I see Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis performing too? I guess I overlooked that at first glance because I'm so accustomed to seeing their names together. WOW! I'm even more excited now.

I wonder if they'll do a reunion with all or some of the Tabu Records alumni....

Hopefully, they give some spotlight to the current SOS drummer...

Word! I have had a crush on Mary Davis for YEARS! I STILL say that hers is the sexiest, creamiest voice in R&B History (MY opinion, of course.) It'll be a treat TOO to see Jimmy & Terry kickin' it with 'em and yeah...if Cherrelle made an appearance, THAT would be the icing on the cake! Whoo HOO! Gon' tune in and see whuzzup! Of course, deservedly, Chaka SHOULD BE recognized for all of her contributions to the wonderful world of music! smile

Nothing wrong with your opinion of Mary Davis. She still has a distinct
powerful voice. She could teach that other Mary a thing or two about
singing soulfully without all the hollering theatrics.

Aretha has been praising Chaka since the 70's. I can't remember who's show she was on, it may have been Mike Douglas. But, she talked about how her son had Chaka's posters plastered all over his wall and she was praising C.K's vocal ability back then. I mean, how can anyone not???

Weird thing is Chaka claims she and Aretha never really officially met until some time in the 90's when Aretha called her out of the blue and asked her to come to Detroit and perform at her birthday party.

Thanks for posting! Just watched it. Damn if Mary & Abdul doesn't sound the same. Still sound like their records. Jimmy was killing that synth. Was this the only tribute associated with Mr. Avant or was there more?

Mint Condition also performed "Pretty Brown Eyes" and a new song from their latest album. I'can't find their performance though.

Gr8!!! tribute to Chaka...Love JJ & TL's musicianship. Mary Davis hasn't aged one bit. She sounds the same to..Makes me more anxious to hear JJ&TL's new album...The show was very well done & not drawn out like most tribute shows. Lord knows I been to enough of them...

is there a link to erykah's performance.

side note, Ledisi was too big for that dress she had on. I mean her gut was front and center. She either needs spanx or to go up a few sizes.

lowkey

the sos band still sound great, this show is always well done, its a huge contrast from the regular annual awards shows. the main reason the bet honors are good is because they dont feature the current crop of performers, alicia keys is about as new school as you gonna get on this show.
