I need to see this, and get caught up. Lawd! The nice man from the UNCF fundraisers? He *looked* like a class act in his suits, singing those classics, You'll Never Fiiiiind.....Wow. You just never know, he had me fooled. The man beat his woman down, called Janet a bitch, all these other things. Some of these old school artists were wildin'! So they didn't cover the last young wife-baby-drama? They didn't cover the messy funeral drama between the daughter and last wife? Interesting.

There were so many rumours going around about that one too. I remember people were saying he jumped because a man came home & found him with his woman.

Sermon doesn't seem that bright to me "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

They polish shit up. Look at the Midnight Star episode for a prime example. Same with EPMD.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't understand why they have 2 sugar coat the reality of who these people were. It makes no sense 2 me.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
To protect their names and family. Pretty sure the family says "don't talk about this aspect of his life" PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever ----- Live Your Life How U Wanna Live It

Because they rather for everything to be condensed and totally safe and PC. Besides if they really gave the nitty gritty, the show wouldn't last that long and that's the real shame of it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That too. Then again, Miki Howard's episode was actually real out there and her ex-husband hasn't threatened TV1 with a lawsuit. So...

I hear u but painting only 1/2 a picture is rather pointless if u ask me.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
donny's ep was not sugarcoated, neither was Flo's or Phyllis' or Melba's "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I've come to lower my expectations about what Unsung is about and what they are aiming for. But still a lot isn't known about what the man did between the years of 1962 thru 71, those albums were brilliant, no just OK, a hit and a miss, but five out of five stars music. I would have liked to have known how Rawls went about selecting his material and the sessions players who contributed to his albums. Tommy Strode (pianist) and Earl Palmer (drums) are still alive, they should have been approached.... maybe they were and declined. I don't know.
He was a jerk, surprise surprise. You get details about his turbulent personal life but you really don't know much about the music he made.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That's what it's all about
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I always suspected he was a jerk. That deep voice, those slick suits that smooth manner. No, thankee. I KNOW a Mississippi pimp when I see one. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
THEY SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON THAT PERSONAL BS AND NOT ENOUGH ENERGY ON THE MUSIC.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well we found out one thang, It's Haaaaard Being a Pimp.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well would the masses be interested in the technical aspect of putting the music together? I mean I would and I am sure most orgers but what about the masses. The show has to have ratings to stay on the air.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Bottom line: no one wants to know about the music, they want the dirt. That's why Unsung is so popular. Sad thing is no one has really made an effort to make a channel about music other than Ovation but I guess YouTube is trying to salvage that.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Its sad that people love controversy.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That's a song ain't it?
The dirt, this shit has been happen' for ages; how many times can you get excited about it> WTF Really.

NO, WHEN IT COMES TO BLACK ARTIST ALL THEY WANT TO KNOW IS DIRT. HOW MANY BOOS HAVE BEEN WRITTEN OR DISCUSS HOW MUCH OF A JACKASS JOHN DENVER WAS TO HIS FAMILY OR BING CROSBY?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Jackson, what are you talking about? First of all, there is no need to write in all caps. We can see. Secondly, it is well known what an ass Crosby was. One of his own sons wrote a book about his father being a horrendous human. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Why do people act like we don't know that shit about Bing Crosby or whoever? God get a grip...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Agree.
I have never seen as much exploitation on personal issues of past white artists like I do on these legendary black artists. I think God that I am at least educated on their music because if I wasnt and just solely relied on the mass media depictions I would think David Ruffin, Sly Stone, Ike Turner, James Brown, etc were nothing but druggies and abusers.
I never seen a documentary that focuses on Ike Tuners MUSIC/talent NEVER but Ive seen a bunch of Jerry Lee Lewis music documentaries ( I do love him by the way)
Of course nobody is perfect but I just think its sad how their legacy is watered and the media only concentrates on the negative things. I dont see that to much with other older white acts.
I wish I could say racism/prejudices are gone but unfornately their not and just because its on a different level does not mean it doesnt exist

Lawdamercy
There have been full on *movies* made about white artists and their dirt. There's been Walk The Line, (Johnny Cash), The Coal Miner's Daughter (Loretta Lynn), Val Kilmer in The Doors, The Rose (based on the life of Janis Joplin). There's dirt put out there about artists on both sides. Come on now. Sheesh. [Edited 2/16/13 7:47am]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
and i will bet you if i sit down and watch these movies, i will walk away think about their music and not about what they do in their personal lives. big difference.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I guess people just wanna bash for bashing sakes. Ignore it.

I was such a fan of Lou Rawls, he was like the coolest cat
I watched the UNCF annual benefit concert every single year, every single moment....brilliant
"You'll Never Find" is bonafide...as a kid, I loved that stuff

this one was kinda boring to me but interesting nonetheless
I know more about him as a person now because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
