I was shocked he was molested as well and that he beat his wife and son. The parental neglect doesn't shock me. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

And let's not forget him calling Janet Jackson a bitch. Wasn't there some drama with his 3rd wife? They skipped over that, just like they skipped over Erik Sermon's suicide attempts on the EPMD ep. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

The Gospel circuit was notorious then as it is now. Its my understanding that's what happened to Aretha. There wasn't any reason to go into the salacious details of the last women he married. As is always the case the women who was their comforting him and to put it bluntly wiping his butt was the mother of his children. As I've said before many men are stupid.
I guess he should never left Huff/Gamble, uh.

Yep, Ms Trina. I haven't known a man yet, at least a man with money that had good sense where women are concerned. If I had been his first wife, I woulda whupped his ass in that hospital bed, but then again, my horoscope says Evil Rising, soo... "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Yeah but I forgot this time! I forgot all about to set my DVR for this. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Wow for real? Damn. Reminds of when I saw the Tammi Terrell Unsung episode when they said that she got gang raped and basically her famiily did nothing about it, and even glossed over it during the episode. This is why I just can't watch her episode again. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Who called Janet a bitch and why?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Mr. Rawls supposedly made that comment in reference to the fact Ms. Jackson was making more money than he and he didn't understand why since in his opinion the quality of his music was better than Janet's. The story was told by one of Rawls' friends or business associates in the Unsung piece.

Lou called Janet a bitch cause she was selling so many records and he wanted to do the same thing. He didn't like that he was told-in a nice way-that he was old and his time passed. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Yeah he was basically coerced into sex by much older women while he was a young gospel child prodigy.

It's amazing, ain't it? I can't help but watch it and just shake my head. That poor girl...

Its nothing wrong with him getting mad because he IS very underrated
BUT
that doesnt mean you call someone out their name thats just being disrespectful and jealous.

I thought it was very interesting..din't know a lot of things like that were going on with Mr. Rawls..it is hard to imagine him being so abusive, mean, and hard..i guess you never really know what goes on behind close doors..i will say he was one of the few performers who voice sounded the same when he got older. if i'm not mistaken, Frank Sinatra said that Lou Rawls had one of the silkiest voices he ever heard....but i like this Unsung

I saw that. Billy Vera told him Janet music was aimed at a different audience than his. I can't believe Mr. Rawls would think that Jazz would outsell what Janet was doing at the time. He even became a headache for Blue Note and they eventually cut him loose. Mr. Rawls was a different person behind the scenes than he portrayed to the public. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Sounds like Lou was bipolar and was not diagnosed? Not making an excuse but clearly he was mentally fucked up.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That's why it was so surprising to hear about it. Whenever I've seen hime on television he was always so mellow. But I had to laugh out loud when it was mentioned he thought he should be outselling Janet Jackson. Hard to believe he would actually think that when Control and Rythm Nation were selling like hot cakes.

Yeah the I'm too cool to sweat was a public persona. Most of these entertainers have huge egos and are deeply insecure, I sure that's what drives them succeed but for many it can be their undoing. You would've thought Rawls' would've understood the differences in demographics and genres and why he wasn't making as much as a Janet Jackson. Everybody should have someone in their life who can tell them when their head is up their ass; I don't think Rawls had a person like that.
He needed scriptgirl.

^ Hearing Billy tell it, you think Lou was still stuck in 1977...

Well, Ms Trina, you know tact and I are strangers. I tell it like it is. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Sounds like it to me... brother man was caught up in a time-warp. He should have hooked up with actor Fred Williams, brother stay in that time thang for a long time....I'm not sure he totally out it. Reminds me of Huggy Bear, getting out of person in, "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka".

Girl, you didn't even know what the word tact meant until you looked it up in the dictionary. Of course that hasn't changed anything has it?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
LOL! No, the person who really didn't know the meaning of the word tact was Uncle Teddy. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Hell, you put it like that, Lou Rawls needed Uncle Teddy in his life.

Right. Some folks just stay in the 1970s and don't know how to adapt to the "New World".

I don;t think he was calling her a bitch personally, he just used it in a statement like "How did bitch making all this money, I sing too!" [Edited 2/15/13 7:54am] PRINCE: Always and Forever

To me, it sounded like he couldn't control his anger or dark side after the car accident. 5 days in a coma, pronounced dead? That is sure to rattle things in your head quite a bit.
