Cecil Womack {September 25, 1947 – February 1, 2013} Cecil Womack passed away Friday at the age of 65, according to the website Soul-Source. Womack was living with his wife and longtime musical partner Linda Womack in Africa when he died. According to Soul-Source, he wanted his ashes spread over the river near his home there. He was the brother of the more well-known soul singer Bobby Womack, but he had a successful and creatively flourishing career of his own.
Cecil was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and he and his brothers Curtis and Bobby had an early group together singing gospel music. Womack was for a time married to legendary Motown singer Mary Wells. After they split, he married Linda Cooke, daughter of Sam Cooke, and they became a recording duo as Womack & Womack.
Womack & Womack made six albums together over a decade-long period in the 1980s and 1990s. Their debut record Love Wars included old school radio staple and club hit "Baby I'm Scared of You." One of the group's best albums was 1988's Conscience, which included No. 3 UK hit (the song never charted in the U.S.) "Teardrops," a moving feature for Linda. A lesser-known gem worth checking out is the "Folk Version" of "M.P.B.... Bureau)," a mix of "M.P.B." which was only available on the song's 12" release.
You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Whoa...
Just a year ago, Bobby was the one I was concerned about. Had no idea about Cecil. Damn, that was his baby brother too.
RIP | |

So sad about Cecil, esp give that he was the baby Womack brother and I believe that their mother is still alive. I wonder if Bobby can even process that he's gone? The whole thing was just so sad w/ the Womacks.
Everything was/is so mysterious w/ him and Linda. The article doesn't even say what country he died in! I hope all is well for Linda and the kids tho (also his kids w/ Mary Wells). Sad news.

The songs he and Linda crafted resonated with passionate, unadulterated soul. He was not only a writer of considerable strengths, he was a great vocalist. May he rest in peace.

I still wonder why he moved to Africa at all. Bobby and 'em claim it was for the search of African roots but it seemed like something else triggered Cecil to make a permanent move there. But yeah still sad news. I hope he found peace. Again RIP.

^Identity gets it^. This makes me so happy to read from someone else. Alot of folks, i felt, digged them for "Baby I'm Scared Of You". But, they were so much more. "Good Times","My Dear", MPB, I Am Love, Uptown, Teardrops, Second Gear, etc....etc..... I truly, truly love Womack & Womack. My favorite being "Love's Calling". The interaction between Cecil and Linda, on toward the end of this song, is just so moving. Damn, this news has me messed up !!!!!
